Ground combat

I really enjoy ground combat since it's a lot more efficient and faster than incinerating the planet and building my own colony. However, I can't get any other weapons other than the ground cannon and the depleted uranium cannon. What should I be researching to get the best troops?

Try with small weapons, it affects both fighters and troops.

I'm not exactly sure how ground combat works personally. I tested by launching a ground assault with 10 troops against a colony with 10M colonists and the defenders had something like 100 troops.

hmm, there was a militia bug for BM wasn't there? I guess that was it.

I managed to get small rocket pods, it's the first thing you can get other than ground cannon but it won't let me place it on the troops. Does anyone have a list of available weapons?
