Why the server downtime every weekend?

Can somebody tell me what the server(s) are doing every Sunday? Everybody is experiencing massive lags then and today there's been a downtime of more than 6 hours I think. Neither backups nor scheduled system updates should take more than half an hour.

The problem we had on the 11th was not related to backups. We apologize for downtime.
