Default Assault suggestions

Looking for some favorite assault ideas for future reference. I have never been that fond of them as I prefer meeting engagements the most and now I find that I'm quite rusty and my core suffers accordingly. At the moment it's Jan 42 and I'm on my way to relieve Leningrad. I'm trying to slowly advance ski scout squads to find out where those rascally Fritz's are hiding or at least where their minefields begin and I figure that if I can work through the mines and get an idea of their positions, I'm going to try and wallop them with massed artillery fire. Speaking of which, has anyone had any luck blowing up mines with arty? I've got some ski pioneer squads if I need them but if it's faster to use 203mm rounds instead I'm all for it.

Playing the AI,Beware of roads that's where to most expect mines.
Use smoke to cover inf./scouts and engineers and maybe a mine sweeper.
Plowing up the ground with massive arty.would do the trick but will also give you rough ground to traverse and increase the probality of a breakdown.

Against a human assault mission?
I've never played one,so better not give advice on that, other than expect mines anywhere.

I think arty clears mines though not reliable or particulary quick method, it definetly has no effect at all on wire. Gilas comment roads are only the most likely places much as a human would so roads, on the flanks, covering paths to bunkers, etc. Often just one line to break through but if its in the mood have known 3 or so lines in places some in depth. Think only happens if it has a generous point allotment but can be very tricky.
