Default Province Bonus to Magic School?

This is the first time I've seen a site like this:

"Alteration Bonus: 20"

What does that mean? I tried searching here and in the manual, dom3 DB (dave perkins): no hits. Thnx in advance.

It means that any mage casting an Alteration ritual in that province will save 20% of their gems. So, if e.g. that mage is casting Wish he'll only use 80 pearls instead of 100.
Which breaks the game quite thoroughly, I might add.

There are similar sites for most other schools of magic, and each of them makes their owner significantly more powerful. They really are the jackpot of sites.

Not sure if the bonus also applies to combat spells that use gems (such as, say, Curse of Stones for Alteration) cast in the province.

It means that ritual spells from Alteraton school will cost 20% less if you cast them in this province, not sure how rounding works here (ie if Manifest Vitriol costs 1 or 2 there). Also, Alt site is one of the most powerful long-term due to Wish for gems mechanic.

It's 20 free S gems per Wish. You can cast it every turn once you have starting 100. After 5 turns (more with empowerment) you can use second caster so now you have 40S/turn. Of course we assume that you don't spend the gems for other tasks etc, so the numbers are a bit different in reality, but still it's the only bonus site that really seems broken in clamless world (blood 60% is very very powerful, but not "broken" in this sense). With clams it's actually less broken, I think.

Who the hell has 100 S per turn for wish without clams? If you have that kind of gem income you've already won, 20 bonus gems wont pose that much of a difference, consider it a global in a way.
Even if you're wishing for gems you need the initial 80 and 55 for every other turn. In standard games that's still about 2 turns gem income at least, if it's a bigger game, the advantage is not so big, if you're alchemising, well theoretically you're just using fire gems (probably) for wishing, but in no way in a game breaking advantage either way.
I fail to see your points?

No. Once you rack up 80 pearls, you can wish for gems, alchemize and have 100 pearls. Put 20 aside (or don't alchemize them), use the other 80 to wish again. If you have another Wish caster, in 4 turns of wishing you can start him wishing for gems as well.
The limitation is how many Wish casters you can create. Assuming you don't have native S4+ casters, you have to Wish for an S4, Forge RoS, Skullcap and Coin and empower twice. That's 80S+40S+10S+10S+10E + whatever it takes to empower from 4 to 6 and another 80 pearls to start him wishing.
Then it's 40 gems/turn. Which means you can ramp up the next wisher in half the time...

If you think that's too expensive, it's still a free wish every 4 turns.

Expensive? No, but, even so if you're saving *all of your S gems for wishing exclusively, bear in mind that you will most likely use them for item forging, teleporting, MH etc... is in no way actually game breaking, unless you consider gem wishing the sole ability of the alt 20 site. I'm not sure if you get me. My point is, you will still be casting wish with or without alt 20, and getting 75 free gems (which in it self can turn around the game) while the alt 20 just gives you 20 extra S gems when used which is *not game breaking as you most likely wont be wishing every turn, so it will be rather an additional 10-15 S gems added on average.

Does what I said make sense at all? It's rather late here...

Maybe I'm missing your point or you're missing mine.

Not all your gems. Just the wished gems. You've still got all your other income. Though if I wasn't pressed I'd invest as much as I could into another wish caster.

Why wouldn't you be wishing every turn? Once you've invested the 80 gems once, wishing for gems is free. Obviously you'll want to wish for other things, so that will cut into it. But if you have this site, you should be wishing every turn.

And trying to put another Wisher together. If you can do that, you've got 40 gems a turn. Which makes the next one easier.

It's a very expensive, high return gem generator. The problem with gem generators is that if you feed them back into themselves they grow exponentially.
Why invest in clams? Isn't there forging/summoning/battle magic you could be doing with those gems?

By my calculation it's 390 pearls for a 20 pearl return. Summoning, empowering & equipping a S9 caster. Less if you've got recruitable S4+ mages. That's roughly 20/1. That's the same as clams without hammers, so probably not a huge deal in a game with clams.
