Greetings SP fans. Imagine what your reaction would be if, after 38 turns of a 40-turn assault through mud, snowdrifts, minefields and enemy fields of fire, crawling along at 1-3 hexes per turn, you've finally secured 2 of 3 700-point objectives and stand adjacent to the third with a single unsuppressed infantry squad that has advanced heroically across a mined bridge (at both ends, no less) into the guts of the enemy position, shielded from defenders by smoke and suppressing fire, waiting only for the next turn to advance and claim its prize, when...
...you hit the end-turn button, watch smugly as the last few defenders are suppressed or routed, then see a rogue round from a drifting 25-pd howitzer friendly fire mission--maybe 4 hexes off-target, even though the target hex was presumably under observation by several units--burst adjacent to your lonely vanguard.
With a mixture of consternation and trepidation you click on it...and they're pinned! The rally attempt fails. They can't move! The nearest friendlies are at least 6 hexes away, they'll never make it (your tanks are either blown up, immobilized, or loitering uselessly on the edge of mud flats south of the bridge). Well OK, don't panic, it's only 17 points suppression, it'll clear up during the auto-rally phase or the next manual attempt, there's still one turn left after all.
So you tie up loose ends--a meaningless bunker gets blown up here, an outlying sniper gets wasted there--then end turn 39 (no bombardment this time

). The AI barely whimpers before your AO gets highlighted to start the last turn. Fingers crossed, you click again on your advance party. They're still suppressed, down to 16 points now, so you try to rally again. Hit the "R" button and...
...NOTHING! They still can't move, there's no help for it, and your dreams of a decisive win fade into the gritty reality of a lousy draw.
May this bitter disappointment serve to comfort those who've shared similar misery, and as a severe cautionary tale to those who might think the game is over before it's over. Thanks for reading and happy gaming!
