Modding Help?

Hey all,
I've been playing SEIV Gold for about three months now. I've played using the various Mods for the game, and while there are high points to all of them, none of them really hit what I'm looking for on the nose. I'm wondering if there's a site that explains the basics of Modding, or if it's basically a learn-as-you-go type of thing. Any info would be appreciated.

Best way to learn as you go is copy the data folder into another folder (say, MyNewMod), change the path text to MyNewMod, then start changing the data files. A lot of them have built-in notes that will help you out, or are pretty self-explanitory.
