The Great Experiment II.
Your race was a powerful one. Your ships travelled the stars and you had colonies in many star systems. You had even met other races.
Unfortunatly your greed and hatred caused you to make war on these races, as they did on you. Many years passed, and many lives were lost. In many cases entire races of sentient beings were exterminated from the galaxy.
Then one day the ancient ones returned to reclaim their place amongst the galaxy you called home. There technolgy was so far beyond yours that it seemed in many ways to be magic to you. In a heartbeat your race, and all the other races you shared the galaxy with, were transported to a new galaxy.
But not your entire race. Only a small group of your people in three ships remain of your once great empire. And these were not the best educated of your race. You have lost the knowledge and tools to make your once great weapons and technolgoy. All you have is your lives, and the basic knowledge needed to survive in this new place.
You must rebuild your empire, and relearn these things you once new. And you must learn to get along with your former neighbors, or start the cycle of destroying each other once again.
But, you are not alone in this galaxy. The ancient ones have not placed you in an uninhabited void. There are races that originated here, and call this galaxy their home. They may not be happy to see you...
This game will use the TGE Mod Version 1.0. You can get it from
the PBW file library.
This mod makes two small changes. First the colony ship hull has been given an additional 5000 units of supply storage. This will be in effect for the entire game, and will be useable by the AI as well. I don't think this will cause any problems, in fact it may be an improvement. It will give your colony ships extended range.
The second change is to increase the Minimum Empire generation in settings.txt. This will have some interesting effects on the game. Take careful note of the following:
You will start the game with no planets and three colony ships. Your home planet will be destroyed before you get the first turn, which will actually be approximately turn 10 in game time. Normally the minimum empire resource production is 200 of each resource. This is not enough to support your colony ships and to build the nessecary facilities on your new planets. Increasing the minimums will give you in effect a stipend to get you on your feet.
Keep in mind that this is not truely a "minimum" despite the name. It goes away the moment you start producing resources on your own. What this means is you should build resource production facilites before you build any space ports and only build space ports when you have enough resources coming in to beat this minimum.
Because of this I HIGHLY recomend noone take the Natural Merchant racial trait. Doing so will cause severe resource complications when you start building facilities. Also DO NOT attempt to colonize the planets in the system you start in, no matter how attractive they are. You will receive resources at a lower rate from these planets even without a space port, and thus causing resource problems. Once you have resources coming in you can return and recolonize this system if you wish, and if noone else gets there first.
This game will have AI players. They will be no bonus, low difficulty AI. I do not expect them to be a problem later in the game, but they could be a great complication for you early on. There will be one AI for each human player. I will make sure you don't start out right next to an AI player or another human player, but I cannot guarantee how long you will have to prepare.
I suggest a good strategy will be to find planets for your colonizers that are not too far from your starting point, but not too close to each other either. This will help you surive if you are pounced upon suddenly by an AI or another player. I also suggest using your "stipend" to build some defenses before you start building resource facilities. You will be getting 12,000 minerals and 4,000 each of organics and rads. This will be more than enough to support your colony ships, and should be enough to build some decent defenses on your new planets to give you some security while you rebuild your economy.
Since I expect it to be some time before you can do any research, and I don't want you to get too far behind, I will make sure you can build up too destroyers. Other than that it will be a standard low tech start.
No one will be allowed to take the Ancient race Racial Trait.
Surender will be disallowed.
Events will be off.
Map will be midlife, size will depend on number of players.
All else will be default. 2000 racial points. Intel is allowed.
This game is SEIV Gold Version 1.78.
