Default Space ship yards query

I want to build a BattleStation at a warp choke point. I realize that I need to have a space shipyard to do this.

Here's the questions:

1) does the ship-borne shipyard draw supplies to build just like planets?

2) do I have to re-supply (re-fuel) it whilst it is stationary?

3) a Cruiser hull will take the 400kt shipyard module but is that hull going to be big enough?

4) besides engines and the SY component - what else would you add to it?

I am not sure what you mean by supplies. If you mean resources (ie mineral/organis/radioactives) then yes, a ship-borne spaceyard needs resources to build just like planets

do I have to re-supply (re-fuel) it whilst it is stationary?

No, if the ship-borne spaceyard is not moving, it does not use up any resources

a Cruiser hull will take the 400kt shipyard module but is that hull going to be big enough?

Yes, the cruiser hull is big enough and is more efficient than say using a battlecruiser hull and filling it with lots of expensive and possibly redundant components. The one problem with a cruiser hull is that is has "short legs"

besides engines and the SY component - what else would you add to it?

if a cruiser hull, I think most people will add the mandatory bridge, the 2 life support and the 2 crew quarters - that leaves you enough space for 5 engines although I generally play with the "propulsion expert" advanced trait, and max to contra-terrene engines pretty quick so I will play with 3 engines and a supply pod in order to give the spaceyard 'longer legs'

One additional suggestion, by the way: if you're the resources and time to do so, I suggest building a Space Yard -base- there, or else equipping yoru armed Battlestation / Starbase with a Space YArd component if possible. It then becomes self-replicating ... 8)
