Planet Movement?
I know it is more likely to be hard coded BUT is there a way to make planets move? would be cool even to have them go around the system sun

Re: Planet Movement?
Early in the history of SE4, MM said they wanted to do that, but it is not part of the SE4 code. The goal was to have planets change positions from turn to turn, not real time motion.
Wait for SE5.
I admit, I would really like this -- you'd have to select resupply depots very carefully, for outer planets, they could be very far away when you needed them most.
So, once coded in, the supply usage rules would need lots of play balanceing. And a complete AI rewrite.

Re: Planet Movement?
Thanks.....Drat! and you are right as to resupply takes a long time at 1 per turn to go side to side

Funny isn't it 'tho... on simultaneous, if you say attack ship, the orders are seek after X, and the same orders appear if you want to glass a world ...
"Mr Sulu/Data, plot an intercept course for the planet."
"Uh..Captain Krik/Picard..sir... the planet can't evade a warp capable vessel."

Re: Planet Movement?
BAH! Fragile Alliance has planetary movement. Tho not star orbital (it's more of a meteor based game). If you add planet movement, then people would was to ability to build gravity nullifers and planetary engines. then you would have planets falling out of the system windows. You also could stop throwing ships at planets and ships and start throwing planets at planets and ships. one more thing you have to watch out for. I say nay. feel free to disagree

Not talking about making engines for planets tho that may not...no you can't kill it...just having them go around the star.

Re: Planet Movement?
Moving planets will be interesting. If there's some enemy ships in your system, your planet may intercept them if they are on your orbital path. I guess that satellites, bases, and ships orbiting your planet will move with the planet, right?
Putting giant engines on a planet and moving it around will be fun but we'll need to put that kind of technology really high up on the engine tech tree. Imagine having a huge fleet of sphereworlds warping around the galaxy, wiping everything out. Or put engines on a black hole and move it into an enemy's system.
Maybe we can have star systems revolving around the galaxy, too. The systems near the galactic core will go around faster than the ones near the edge. Actually, the planets near the star should revolve faster than the outer ones, too. With binary and trinary systems, the stars should revolve around each other.

How would you accomplish that? The hole would immediately suck in the engines as soon as you try to connect them to the hole. If you try to generate some odd field around it to connect the engines too, the field would get sucked in.

There is no solid mass onto which you could attatch engines! Maybe really expensive quantum signularity guns would work...
