Re: Maximum players?
I've never tried it, but I suspect you will get only the 20 human players. No AI's at all.

Re: Maximum players?
Yes, if you set 20 human players, there will be no neutrals.
20 empires is a hard limit.

Maximum players?
I guess I know the answer to this question but I need it confimed.
The max number of players is 20, right.
If we are 20 human players and I set large numbers of neutral empires. Will there be more than 20 races in the game?

Re: Maximum players?
Would be possible(maybe in a next patch), to increase the limit of players? I don't know a lot about programming, but would it be a hard thing to change? I ask this because i have a top-end machine and would like to have lot more empires in a game (i already increased the number of systems), and would not have any problem with the speed of turn processing....
Any ideas of how to change the number of empires without needing to do hardcode changes?

Could you imagine if this was the case? SEV on PBW with 30 or more empires! We would definately need to re-write the PBW code to handle larger game files and so forth.

Re: Maximum players?
Grandpa Kim had trouble running the Last turn for Networks II. We only have 7 players left, but have lots of ships, etc. The turn took over 30 minutes for him to run. The first time it timed out after 20 minutes.
A larger game could be very difficult to handle...

Actually, we never wrote a player limit into the PBW code. Or if there is one, I don't know what it is. I have seen people setup games for as many as 30 people before. Of course, that is before they realize that SE4 won't allow it. But the time limit and file upload size limits will be more of a problem.

Yes, that would be a problem. If SE5 doesn't do a better job with the processing speed of the larger games, there will be a practical limit to how big a game can be on PBW. Of course, that's a year or two away. Enough time to upgrade the server hardware I think.

Re: Maximum players?
It is enthralling to envision SE5 with a much higher limit on the number of max systems, players, etc...
Think of what a game would be like with a thousand systems, or fifty empires?
Of course, you'd have to comensurately slow down tech growth and other stuff...and it would take eons to play...but if such a thing were on PBW, it would approach a "massive Online game", no?
intriguing...
thanks,
Alarik

Re: Maximum players?
Personally I think I'd have difficulty in a game with more then 20 human players. I would like to see a larger number of spots for AI, and "Indiginous" races. Like Neutrals but weaker even. Bascially they'd be little more then a resource for the major empires to conquer and use to populate their colonies.
