Help-newbie-Mining remotely
I have scanned the forums and still cannot figure out how to mine(extract resources)from asteroids and planets w/o establishing a colony.
Please tell me what needs to be constructed and what needs to be constructed to transport 'it' to the locations.
Thank you.

You need to build a ship with Robo-Miners on it. Then just leave it around planet.
(and prepare to be disapointed. You may find the ship costs more to maintain than it produces)

Re: Help-newbie-Mining remotely
Another consideration when building a remote mining ship is that it uses supplies. Would be a real good idea to wait on building these until you have solar collectors, and a ship large enough to hold a number of extraction components (of the same type)

And if it runs out of supplies?? Who cares, it keeps on mining. (At least that is what I noticed in a recent P&N game)

Re: Help-newbie-Mining remotely
Well, it does make the ship consume a lot of maintenance on the way home when the asteroids are depleted...

Re: Help-newbie-Mining remotely
I frequently use remote mining. I make a ship with as few engines as needed to get it in place. It doesn't make any difference if the ship runs out of supplies. It just continues to produce each turn. I don't intend to ever resupply the ship...Greybeard

Re: Help-newbie-Mining remotely
I only use space stations for mining. I love when i get one of those asteroids systems close by. In a few years I get a pretty cool mining community going on there, with space stations loaded only with mining components of the same kind. Some times its so profitable that i can take most facilities slot in my planets for research. Keep it protected though, cause the AI can wreck havoc throught it in no time.

Re: Help-newbie-Mining remotely
Hunkpapa; Well, for me, I build a SY (Shipyard) Ship. I send it to the location for 'remote' extraction. I then build a Base (the biggest one you have) loaded with remote units, which ever resource you want to extract. Of course this is good. Unitl you get Large satellites. I put the remote units on the satellites. Using the same SY Ship I build satellites. When the resource is gone, or you have finished extracting the resource, I take a Transport (with a couple satellite bays) and recover them and go to another site for extraction. Then launch the satellites.
For me this works!
Aloofim, is right. You do need to protect the site.
