Default Using downloaded races

Thanks again for assisting me on my heavy mounting problem.

Now I boldly go where everyone else seems to, but I can't figure out...using all of the great mods, races, ect that are being cranked out. Can someone please spoonfeed me on exactly what I need to do to put Borg or the Rebels or the EA into a game against myself?

Regarding how to take the first step toward using a mod:

If you go up a level from the Space Empires IV Forum, at the top of the list of forums is one called:

Scenario/Mod Archive

Select this forum. Then, select the topic which is titled: Space Empires IV. Now, scroll down until you see a message whose author is:

Tampa_Gamer

Look for a message that says: Mod_Pack 1.01

This helpful individual has put a couple of mods together in one package called the Mod_Pack. Download this file and follow his instructions. This will give you at least three custom races which are quite fun to play against.

This is just a first step compared to the changes you can make to the game. But it's as far as I've gotten myself... If you have any other questions, hopefully one of the more experienced folks can provide more info.

(I apologize for not trying out some of the other great mods out there. But while I'm here anyways, let me give credit and thanks, by name! even now. Thanks to Mephisto, Tampa_Gamer and Daynarr!)

So then I toggle control to the computer after the game starts? I remember reading something like that somewhere. I'll admit I've never taken control of an AI race, but I've seen the option.

Thanks Tampa

Don't forget to select computer/ai controlled. the steps are,...

Add an existing empire.
highlight it and select edit
on the general tab there is a check box to toggle between computer and player controlled.

Yup - Triumvir is right, I forgot the essential step. Once the race is added (while you are still in the "players" tab) you must "edit" that player. Once the race comes up, check the control box towards the bottom of the screen to read "computer controlled" or something like that instead of human control. There is also an option to switch control during the game, but then you would know where they are, etc. and I only use this Last option for playtesting AI files.

Warp_Nine has the borg images. I have a link to his web page from my site. Sorry, too tired to dig it up for ya, but you can link to Warp_Nine's site from mine. Good luck.

Thanks raynor. I grabbed the modpack and the EA shipset and installed them easy enough. Next question: Are these 3 races only available for a player to use or will they randomly come up as AI empires? I tried to generate 5 large games and none of the 3 showed up as opponents. Is there something else I need to do for them to be available to the computer?

Woodelf- Sometimes the computer will pick them, sometimes not (depends on how many similar "personality" types are already in the game). The easiest way to ensure those races are included in a game is to add them in the "players" tab when you are starting a new game. Here is where you choose "add existing". Then a menu will pop up with all .emp files in your "empires" folder. Depending on the amount of racial points choose the Darlok/Sergetti 2000, 3000 or 5000 file. For the Earth Alliance, just choose the their file. Hope this makes sense!
