Default Modified Map?

I'm new to this game and this forum. I'm playing the game - SEIV - and so far it's pretty good but (there's always a but) I've found it lacking, so here's my question:

Has anyone tried to enlarge the map/quadrant? I'm envisioning something on the line of four to ten times the current playing area. Complete, of course, with solar systems, races, etc. With all of the races available the current map can be very very crowded. A larger quadrant, along with the resulting increase in star systems and other goodies, would make exploration more fun - in my opinion of course. Is there anyone out there who would like to try and modify the map/quadrant size?

I'd also like to see the elimination of the warp points. Let the ships traverse free space between the stars. Let us be able to set up observation Posts/platforms between the stars. Has anyone tried to do this? Can it be done?

Again, this is just my opinion, but I'd like to see the above ideas in this game, and I think then, this game would be almost perfect.

Default Re: Modified Map?

This should have been posted in the Malfador Machinations/Space Empires IV forum, not in Gameboard/New Scenario/Mod. I think a moderator could move it.

You can't increase the physical size of the display area, but this entry in Settings.txt:

Maximum Number Of Systems := 100

can be increased to a maximum of 255. If you increase this, you'll need a larger set of system names; the standard SystemNames.txt only has 114 names.

Eliminating warp points would require so many changes to the hardcode to effectively be another game; it can't be modded.
