Re: Invulnerable Challenge - Warning... Spoilers!
SPOILER
Hurray! I finally get rid of those annoying 200+ storms. It was an enormous job. The game date is 2414.5 and I'm gathering and building my forces. Pretty soon I'll try to breach Shark's defences.
BIG SPOILER: Those seven storms in Teradome are annoying, you can't never know beforehand if your ships will take the damage or not. An easy way of getting rid of those storms are simple: Just send a small fleet with a non-master-computer-storm-destroying-ship. Sharks will capture it using Allegience Subverter and then they'll use the ship and destroy those storms over the warp point Well, AI constantly astonishes me with unbelievable strategic skills

Re: Invulnerable Challenge - Warning... Spoilers!
Game Over. Sharks defeated in 2423.9. I'll send the files tonight.
My mark should be easy to beat, but defeating the Sharks was a big enough victory for me.

Re: Invulnerable Challenge - Warning... Spoilers!
The Sharks lost its Last planet at 2416.1 but the main battle was a couple of turns earlier.
I had ~350 ships in my fleet and after the battle I still had over 250 so the fleet was pretty overpowered. The most embarrassing thing is that I still had over 100 ships mothballed because I didn't had enough cash to unmothball them. If I hadn't build a fleet big enough for foolproof victory I could've beat the Sharks 20-30 turns earlier.
The Challenge was very cool except those storms. It took a lot of patience and even more mouse clicks to get rid of them.

Thanks... glad you had fun. Your score is better than I ever expected... You are the clear winner so far. I would have expected no less. And I really enjoyed the big battle. Excellent fleet composition.
The storms were annoying, yes... sorry about that tedium. You could have gambled again... nahhh.
I feel a bit bad about putting them in... but after all, I wanted to give the players some aggrivation as advertised!

Re: Invulnerable Challenge - Warning... Spoilers!
Just a thought but perhaps the AI could handle the storms if the minister is turned on in storm destroyer ships. Of course it would slow down the process because I suspect that the AI can't destroy multiple storms in each turn.

Re: Invulnerable Challenge - Warning... Spoilers!
Spoilers....
The Sharks are no more in Terradome in 2418.8.
I must have been much more lucky than others with the storms as I lost little to them - perhaps putting organic armour on my Baseships helped after I saw the storms in Regulan.
After seeing the score differential at the begining I decided on an ecnomic expansion first, hunting party second approach.
I had a hell time early fighting off a Shark attack. I colonised Tania Borealis straight off and then lost all of the planets. They nearly got through to the homesystem but I had luckily built a warp collapser earlier and saved myself. I then set about creating and collpasing all over my half of the galaxy to secure it. I ended up having only Sigma Three with a warp hole out, I built strong defences there and held off a lot of shark attacks until I had developed the systems behind and built up the war fleet.
I had a couple of scary moments when I killed several star killers that were roaming around my side of the galaxy - that was one hell of a shock to see that - and just lucky I had a ship at the warp hole!
Then it was a case of find em and splat em.
I went for organic weapons to increase the build speed of the baseships, not ideal weapons but they did allow quick building.
Thanks Stone Mill!!
This was good fun and a sanity saver with PBW down!
I would love to see more of these games set up. Perhaps there is space at the PBW server to keep these games available to the community so people can play them when ever they feel the need?

Re: Invulnerable Challenge - Warning... Spoilers!
Joachim, thanks and well done! Your score is quite reputable, especially in light of your early setbacks! Very nice indeed.
As far as the storms- it's hard to say, but your success is something to note. Other players have done well "armoring up."
As for continuing to develop more of these, I think it's a wonderful idea. It's not too much work, and it's actually kind of fun to try and stump the other players. The winner of this tourney will be encouraged to do so. If he does not wish to do so, I can certainly make another.
Best regards.

Re: Invulnerable Challenge - Warning... Spoilers!
Turn 2411.9
No the game isn't over...not even close. No way I'm going to beat the Sharks in record time.
Most of the game has been relatively trouble-free. I safeguarded my home system, spread out..took out the few Sharks swimming in the open systems...captured colonies and spaced all the sharks (*evil laugh*)
I have a spy ship in Asellus Tertius that has been there for years. It's fast and runs circles that the Space Sharks can't handle. I might as well have named the ship "the Gingerbread Man".
I finally have strong enough forces to dare the invasion, but decided to counter the damaging warp points with heavily-armored sweepers. Just as I am massing my troops in Adarak, the Sharks try to use that second warp point to pop in behind my ships and make a run at my systems. If they had gotten through at a certain time, they would have caught my strong yet lonely warp-opening vessel. Fortunately, the 21 sharks appeared the same time my group of organic baseships, who cleaned them up without getting a scratch. Still, there are another 8 sharks who are daring to rush for the point, but I think they arrive the same time as my second group which needs to rendezvous with the invasion fleet before I close that point.
After that, the real fun begins when I attack Asellus Tertius. I can't wait to hit the 130+ sharks massed at the interior warp point (near AS VII), since they have seven starbases. I've seen these on my scanners, and my simulations show them to be unholy weapons in a group of 2 or 3...seven will probably take out 40 ships by themselves, and that's not including their over 120 friends!!
