I'm glad to see the interest. I have worries that what I am doing will not be great news or even of much interest to a lot of people. BUT, I love the game. And the time the PBW server has been down has allowed me to work on a simple site to rate competition.

Of course, it's completely voluntary. In fact, a person can "join" and still not be required to be in a rated game.

The rules may need some tweaking but I think the crew we have here can roll with the turbulance and even offer suggestions.

But, if Geo (and his helpful crew) can offer the opportunity of the PBW site (and all the worries and concerns it requires), then I can make a small effort for something additional. $50 to take a chance isn't that big of a deal. If it works, OK, if not, at least I can say I tried something for the community.

If you were to add up all of the money that we have all paid out for our sites, which are mostly dedicated to SEIV, I bet it will top 5 grand easy.

If you factor in all the time those of us who have made things for this game, mods ,shipsets, stories, etc has spent and calculated our time based on an hourly rate, say $16.50 and hour, I'd bet we would break a 100k.

And making mods...and shipsets...people REALLY have to love the game!

I once tinkered with shipset design. TOO many maps to mess with. So, I can REALLY appreciate the people who take the time to make new shipsets.

And, then there are the mods. JEEZ! Almost like game design.

Shrapnel certainly has a dedicated crowd! (OH, and a great game!)

Okay! I'm all signed up!

We should consider a swiss tournament to get the ball rolling. Say 10 players for 3 rounds. Winner will receive a major prize of....... er.... well, his incredibly high rating should be enough of a prize for the first tourney.

Also-rans will receive parting gifts of somewhat less exalted Ratings.

Okay, gotta go now and squeak at Geoschmo to get PBW back up.

I was hoping several of the KOTH players might like to have their game count in a rating as well as striving to be the King.

Just have to wait and see.

Yep this rating system fits in with KOTH so perhaps there will be lots of sign ups. Have you thought about putting the link to your sig? I think it would be a good advertisement for it at least according to your post count
