Re: OT: Favorite Movie
Well, I'll give you my 'short list'..
1)Star Wars: A new hope
2)Raiders of the lost Ark
3)The Princess Bride
4)Monty Python's The Holy Grail
5)The Court Jester
I was 17 when the original Star Wars Came out and had just finished High School. IMHO I was at the perfect age to recieve the full impact of the movie. Prior to Star Wars, 2001:A Space Odyssey was the front end of technology for Sci-Fi movies. Although a great movie, it had a very slow rythme. Can you imagine if all Sci-Fi movies followed the 2001 movie model? going for 'realistic' space travel as opposed to the swashbuckling action found in Star Wars.
Before Star Wars, Space movies had a much more 'serious undercurrent'. After Star Wars Space movies became 'FUN'

Re: OT: Favorite Movie
Terminator
The 6th Sense
The Truman Show
I first watched these knowing nothing about them which make the especially good. Like the scene were you first realize arnie is a robot. Or finding out along with Jim Carey that he is in a TV show.
And lets not forget First Blood!! "Nothing is Over. NOTHING!!"

Re: OT: Favorite Movie
Favorite movies in no particular order:
Memento
Brilliant movie. Strikes a chord with me.
Fight Club
Cool lines and characters. Clever, but I suppose kind of empty.
July Rhapsody
Cantonese movie starring Jacky Cheung and Anita Mui. A literal translation would be "Men at 40", about a male high school teacher of Chinese literature facing a sort of mid-life crisis.
More when I think of them ...

Akira Kurosawa's The Seven Samurai.
Possibly the best movie ever made.

Re: OT: Favorite Movie
Strangely enough, there are no new films on my favorite list. Could it be that today’s movies are all about effects and not about content ?
While I enjoyed watching movies like LOTR and Matrix (1), they do not leave a Lasting impression on me (that is LOTR the movie, not LOTR the books). Good for 2 hour of fun, then easily forgotten.
Some of my favourite movies of all time (In no particular order):
A Clockwork Orange
Citizen Kane
Ben Hur
The seven Samurai
Ran
Battleship Potempkin
One flew over the Cuckoo’s nest
Silence of the Lambs
Blade Runner
Alien (1)
Time Bandits
Animal House
Barbarella

Re: OT: Favorite Movie
The original "12 angry man". Very good movie that make you think twice.

That is a good movie. Although I haven't seen the origianal. I just watch the one with Tony Danza the other night with my friends. I enjoyed it alot, as you said it makes you think about it and get into the story.
My list would have to include the following, in no particular order:
Gone in 60 Seconds
SW, 2, 4, 5, 6
Most of the Star Trek movies
Taken (Miniseries)
Dumb & Dumber
The Matrix (1)
Lots more but that is it for now.
