KanesS shipset now available!

Yes! I have broken my own personal record for completing a project (ie- I actually completed one) and can now proudly announce the first public release of the KanesS shipset! Yes, you can now download and use this beautifully hand-crafted shipset, each image lovingly rendered in Doga and then painstakingly finished and resized in paintshop Pro.
It is fully neo-standard compliant, and also includes a number of further images for maximum compatibility with Proportions and other mods. Future Versions of the set may well include more images for Fyron's Adamant mod, and anything else that takes my fancy.

It also includes a masterfully sculpted AI for your Proportions games carefully moulded for your entertainment by the superlative Oleg. I can only apologise to you all for keeping this AI from the public for so long.

No vanilla-game AI is currently available, but if anyone wants to oblige then they are more than welcome. First refusal, obviously, goes to Oleg, and then to anyone else I've worked with on previous projects.

Basically I create the image 512*512 pixels in DOGA, which comes out with lots of clunky angles. I quickly alter the colour levels in adobe photopaint (or whatever it's called- it's not much good for more than that) then switch to psp5 to smooth the angles into curves with my trusty artpad & pen. Then I resize the image to 128*128 or 36*36 as appropriate.
My philosophy is that DOGA is nothing more than a tool for helping me get the 3D perspective & lighting right when I'm drawing with my pen, although in reality DOGA did a lot more of the hoof-work than I'd anticipated once I learned how to use it. This was my first ever experiment with DOGA and 3D modelling, and you can see the difference in quality between some of my first pics (scout, escort) compared to the later ones (carriers, baseships) as I refined the process.

A few images (ie the infantry & race pics, the worldship) were made purely in PSP. The troops & weapon plats & some of the ice they sit on were generated in DOGA. Without Doga I never would have got the semi-transparent qualities of the ice, although it still needed smoothing and tweaking. However on those pics the backgrounds, skies, moons, lens flares & weapon effects were all pixel-pushing PSP work.

One of these days I'll upload some files to show my workings like I did here and here.

Very nice.

Some of the minis are a little too dark though (the ones that are only red). Shipsets with nearly invisible ships can be quite a PITA to play against sometimes. Any possibilities of lightening it up a bit

I like it, I like it a lot. Good job DS. Now everyone will bug you not only for race portraits, but full shipsets as well; brace yourself =D
