Default Trade?

Has anyone ever had an allien reace offer/accept a trade? Even offerning large amounts of tech (that I know they do not have) and resources in exchange for a comm link was tuned down. Just to test it, I even offered a huge planet that was ideal for the allien for a very small amount of minerals - and that was turned down.

Any ideas?

yes i did trade with the AI, but i only traded ships, a lot of frigate and escort with no weapons on them for a dreadnought, didn't want to research it and the only race that had the tech was an ally, so i couldn't capture it.

But i still didn't trade technology, but when you get an AI tech, by capturing a ship, and the ship uses for instance level 3 misile weapons and you have level 1, you ''l only gain one level, so maybe when you offer the AI tech, the total research points you give is still not enough to trade for? of course i am assuming that the AI looks at research points and not the potential.
I don't know what reasons the AI would have to reject a planet.

The only trades I have ever been able to get any race to accept are those where I trade a treaty to them for tech, or trade even number of resources. The resource trades are good for situations when you need minerals and have an excess of organics or radioactives. The treaty trades are weird. You can get most races to give you their colonization tech for a trade alliance. I hasten to add that I have stopped making that trade because it makes it way to easy to get another colonization tech. I think that most races will trade almost anything with you to get a treaty.

AI Diplomacy in SEIV is one of the worst I've ever seen - probably because it's so complex?

The ANGER-engine is primitive, and so the AI races are primitive.

If a big nice guy enters the room you don't melest him because he is big - but if the big guy is violent and ruthless you might want to act in self-defence.
Try to tell that to one of the races in SEIV.

When the AI attacks one of my ships and wins his anger level goes up - (???) - shouldn't he be happy and so the anger go down?

I haven't actually tried to alter the anger.txt file myself since I'm so ...careful.

I've been playing hardest level with full AI bonus, a few times - but it isn't hard enough - MEANING - the computer might be violent and ruthless, but he doesn't know when to BACK OFF - which a human does.

So in the "end" (haven't quite finished any game yet) I'm still standing strong and the other five-six remaning empires are scattered around the quadrant, waiting for my troop-transport to land.

Now and then I send them a message, asking if they'd like peace, for a change. But Nooooo... they'd rather just sit there and wait for death while there are at least 30% uncolonized planets left.

As long as you are ahead in research the computer can't stand a chance no matter what bonuses they have.

But still, it's a great game - especially when playing against human opponents.

If you have TDM pack and tried to trade with Sergetti or Xi'Chung, it is no wonder you couldn't do it - they just don't accept any sort of trade (or they do but only if you offer them insane amount of trade value for practically nothing in return). It's because human players very often trade 2 or 3 obsolete escorts for 1 colony ship and get a free colony tech that way.

Yes. In my current game I have traded quite a bit with 3 different AIs. They seem to like being offered resources and ships. I even traded contact with another race once. I take ships using crew insurrection and then trade them back to the AI for whatever I need at the moment. I've traded for resources and for rock colony tech (I'm playing ice).

However, in all the games I've played to date, not one single race has ever initiated trade with me. I think it has to be initiated by a human. Obviously some work still needs to be done there by MM.

Okay look:

The Eee_AI_Anger.txt says that if the Eee (a super friendly ancient race) attacks you and wins then his anger lvl goes UP by two points?

Shouldn't it go down?

Then if the Eee recieves "Receive Make peace with empire" his anger remains indifferent?

Wouldn't a sentient race as the Eee understand that peace brings more resources to the empires than war?

Then I'm looking at Eee_AI_Politicts.txt and some of the things just don't make sense. I hope it has to do something about that I don't understand anything in it.

Maybe I should start a new thread?
hmmm...
