AAAH! HELP
I have a firewall and it prevents me from playing SE IV with any of my friends Online in any way. Does anyone know which TCP ports I need enabled? My firewall (which is based in a router) can take both TCP and UDP, but I've gathered that SE IV only needs TCP. Does anyone know which one I need?

Re: AAAH! HELP
Welcome to the forum.
Most of us do not play TCI/IP play as it still seems to have some bugs that can become rather agervating.
What we do is play by email or play by web via www.pbw.cc
Playing by email is just as fast as playing by TCI/IP.
I hope this helps.

Re: AAAH! HELP
I checked that one out and it doesn't have exact port numbers, which is what I really need. I already have quite a few open now for other applications, so I suppose it is possible that I could play it. If anyone knows the actual numbers, I'd be grateful for them being posted. Also, several friends of mine say that organic weapons are only useful in the fist part of the game. Anyone got an argument I can use to prove them wrong?

Re: AAAH! HELP
2) b) Set Service Port Range 6716 to 6720, to forward 'Both' protocols (udp and tcp) to the INTERNAL IP
Gotta be honest, I prefer Play By Web, but a quick check of ports SE4 tries to open confirms the above info: SE4 uses ports 6716 UDP and 6720 TCP to connect. And SE4 wants to be a server.
As for organic weapons, you can work out stategies to make them a problem for others late in the game. Get the TCPIP working and you go show 'em.
Just don't be a slave to the organic weapons late game. Mix'em up with some of the others, and add some shielding to your organic armored ships.

Re: AAAH! HELP
Thanks. One Last thing. I've been attempting to use a few mods, most notably Fyrons Quadrant Mod Deluxe, and for some reason, with most of the pictures of warp points and planets and such the actual picture has been replaced by a big white box. I'm guessing this is because I'm missing a picture add-on thing. I think I've found one for the planets, but I can't seem to find one for the warp points anywhere. Anyone got any idea what's going on/where I can get 'em?

Re: AAAH! HELP
Ah yes, Fyron's Quadrant Mod Deluxe uses images from the Image Mod Pack, located {here}
Now Fyron's mod can (probably should) go in it's own folder under the SE4 directory, so you can pick and choose. But the Image Mod should go in the default directory so it's available for FQM and other mods that need it. Don't worry, it won't overwrite anything, it just adds to the images.
