Re: New Race Style (Zorians)
I downloaded your race, and have included it in a new game. So far, so good. The ships are nice, the Speech is funny (and a relief from the standard fare), its early in the game so I don't know how well they are holding up (will report back later). The only problem I have is the same problem I have with a few other shipsets. The ships are TOO dark. It is hard to pick them out on my screen from all the background clutter, (this is a problem I have had with the Tlaxcalan too, great race but hard to see.) Other than that they seem good.
The other races in the game are: Rage5000, Xi'Chung(xpert), Sergetti (xpert), Torons (5k), Earth Alliance (5k), Pundion(sp?5k), Narn (5k), the Dominion(5k, Atrocities new one), and a few others. Will report later.

Re: New Race Style (Zorians)
Thanks for giving them a try.
I did notice a few goofs on them Last night and posted the updated files. They seem to have been included into a in-progress game of mine with no problems

Re: New Race Style (Zorians)
I have been working on the darkness of the ships, but I have been having problems getting a color/texture that would be light enough to see easily, and still give the ships a "rock" like look. I have been using POV-ray, and if you have any suggestions on making them lighter I would greatly appreciate it.

Re: New Race Style (Zorians)
Downloaded your fixed up files, alas too late for the Zorians. They just got squished in a threeway against the Earth Alliance, the Toron Confed, and the Dominion. Have started new game with update, will let you know. (Currently at turn 7, they are 9th but have a high # of planets (7).)

Re: New Race Style (Zorians)
It is now turn 51, they have jumped to FIRST place with 30 planets, have pounded the Earth Alliance to pulp. I am in 2nd, with the Rage in 3rd, and the Torons in 4th. The expert Xi'Chung are at 5th and the expert Sergetti are in 8th.(of 11 races, the main map is all connected wormholes but I am stuck in a three system cut off from the rest of the map, with only the Narn to contend with.). Having much fun. Just not looking forward to meeting up with the Zorian once I open a wormhole .

Re: New Race Style (Zorians)
I started a ten race game in a medium sized system, and I found a situation that can cause the Zorians a problem very early in the game. This would only be a problem if they started out in close proximity to a human player, I think. (As fate would have it, that is how this game started out.)
I had colonized a couple of outlying planets, when in pops a Zorian escort. I switched production on my homeworld to produce a frigate. The next turn, the Zorians declared war, and the escort glassed one of my outer planets near his warp point. It then headed out another warp point. At that point, I was thinking, "Ouch, I'm next door to an aggressive race, and this is going to be really tough!" By the time the escort returned to my system from its exploration, I had built a second frigate. I had my two frigates destroy the escort then jump into the Zorian home system, expecting trouble. However, the Zorians were busy colonizing, and had no more warships. I mopped up their perimeter worlds, then blockaded the homeworld until I built up enough points to force them to surrender.
I think that the problem is that you have them create a single attack ship first for scouting purposes, then start building colonizers. Unfortunately, since the race is aggressive, if the escort finds someone, the Zorians wind up in a war situation, while they are still trying to colonize their home system. It would probably be better to get at least a little colonization out of the way first, before building the escort to send out. Then, you should probably have them build more than one warship before going back to colonization.
I think this is only a problem early. If they have enough space to get established, then they probably get pretty tough.

Re: New Race Style (Zorians)
Thanks for the info. I've been seening a problem with them either screaming up to the top 3 or just puddling along at the bottom, and by closely watching the scores could tell that it was because of a war very early in the game, but I couldn't tell what was happening.
I have never ended up at war with them myself, because by the time I usually run into them they're big enough that a war would really hurt, so knowing how they are suppose to react in diplomacy, I immediately start sending them bribes, or asking them to attack someone else - a few turns later they are offering a treaty of some sort, and once thier frinds with you they tend to stay friends.
