It\'s a Mystery
Why we know so much about the events in the game. I contend that we need more mystery and randomness.
1) Why is it that we know so much about a race upon first contact? We have yet to establish communication and we know what they look like, what systems they claim, and even a breakdown of attributes.
2) Why is it we can predict the exact turn a research project will be finished?
3) If there is a random event, we KNOW it's a bad one, (the exception is the lucky colony ship that gets Zapped to a clean slate system). I miss Monsters/Derelict ships(MOO).
4) I like the Idea that SOME races are unpredictable, but it seems they all act about the same. They lack differentiation.
5) The Tech Tree is always the same. You can plan your research out till your Home Sun Explodes.
6) Repeat after me.......Funny warp holes ALWAYS lead to a Black Hole, sorry if this spoils it for some.
7) All neutrals have about the same tech level.
I Like the Game. I want to Love it.

Re: It\'s a Mystery
Not all random events are bad! How many times must I say that!
There are events that improve your planet's conditions and value.
When you first meet an enemy race, I guess the game figures that you share some basic info, I dunno. We (us humans in the real world) haven't met any aliens, so we don't know how that goes.

Re: It\'s a Mystery
I am running the latest patch and have yet to experience a positive event. I look forward to it.
Dracus, Thanks for the offer. Is it a Mod? I want to continue to run the game without mods.

Re: It\'s a Mystery
There is no positive events in the game file, I had to write my own.
If you want it, I will post it when I get back to my game computer on monday.
It overwrites the events file, but if you download the next patch, you will be back to square one. What I do is put a copy of the modified files in a folder call modified. That way after the patch download I can compare the files and see if I want to re- add the modified file. I have sent the file to MM and maybe in one of his patches it will be added.
The one I like the best is:
A pleasure ship vists planet { } and your population feels better.

Re: It\'s a Mystery
Ok,
I have sented them off to MM anyway, so maybe he will add them to the game in the next patch or two.
The events file that comes with the game has no good events in it. The condition improvment comes from a fac you build.

Re: It\'s a Mystery
Note: The vast majority of events are good, since they are usually bad things happening to your enemy

Re: It\'s a Mystery
If you look at it that way, they are good.
But I sure hate having my sun nova on me in the middle of a war. lose a lot of ships that way.
But I will say that one time a random wp closed, ending the war with one of the crystal races. We are still offically at war, but they can no longer get any ships into my systems. been like that for over 100 turns so far.

Re: It\'s a Mystery
[old]Did I ever tell you about the time I lost a third of my Pirate Fleet and a major outpost to a supernova that occured in an enemy system?[/old]
That kind of thing is only a minor setback to a nomadic Pirate Race like me. The other Pirate cells, just sent a construction ship back & we rebuilt
In fact, the whole incident ended up helping me, since it cut off the Jreanar from a juicy system of theirs, which I moved in and captured. They don't have any colonies close enough to counter attack with, so The system (and a Miner world and a Farm world) is all mine.
