Default How does resupply work?

From reading the Posts here and the manual, it seems like my ships should automatically resupply as soon as I enter a system with a resupply depot. However, my ships only resupply when they go all the way to the planet with the resupply depot. Makes sense that it should work that way, but the manual made it sound easier.

You are mostly correct, but it is not the system but the secoor of the system that contains the resupply depot. (e.g. the planet that has the resupply facility)

A ship/fleet will resupply when it's in the same sector -- not system -- as the resupply depot, doing so immediately upon arrival.

(Related issue -- I wonder when exactly fleet supply pooling takes place. Say a nearly-full tanker ship joins a fuel-starved fleet deep in enemy space, and then on its turn the enemy attacks. Will the supply already have been redistributed, or will that take place at the beginning of the owner's next turn?)

errm, well

What I see is that when I move a ship into a *sector* containing a planet with a Resupply Depot, the ship resupplies to 50 less than full capacity.

Only if a ship starts my turn in a sector containing a planet with a Resupply Depot does it seem to get fully topped-up.

YE GODS, I hate UBB code!

What a candy-***, de-balled excuse for an SGML. I spent 6 years learning HTML so I could re-learn this crap. Jesus!

The resupply happens at the start of your turn. To wit:

Your tanker meets and joins Alpha Fleet. You hit end turn, and players 2-12 start. Player 7 attacks Alpha fleet, and they will NOT be supplied. But now, say no one attacks, and your turn starts. All your ships with current orders scurry about their merry ways. Alpha Fleet had "move to" orders, and these orders initiate a conflict. The fleet WILL BE supplied.

Personally, though, I hare resupplying. I always research Stellar Harnessing to get Solar Collector III, and put two or three on each ship. They become self-sufficient. LC's can explore the entire galaxy and never come home. For a fleet, instead of tankers, I have "Fleet Tenders" which have a Repair Pod and a bunch of Solar Collectors. Whole fleets that never, EVER run out of energy. Unless they get into intense combat in a nebula......

I use stealth combat.

Fleets of Cruisers and Battle Cruises popping in and out attacking at will with a cloaked supply ship with a repair bay. Then all of the ships have Emergency Resupply pods. I do not rely on the whims of weak and pathetic stars for me supplies! BWAHAHA... err well actually Solar is a good way to go as well...

Ditto that on the solar collectors. Since they even work when cloaked, and simply being cloaked doesn't seem to use up supply (although you do need to have at least 1 unit or cloak drops...), you end up needing a LOT fewer ships on rotation as you can simply cloak and recharge, instead of returning to friendly space.

That is, until your enemies research good-enough sensors.

Also Stellar Harnessing eventually gives you solar sails, which are seriously good juju. Mmmm, DNs with speed 11/6, BCs at 13/7 (prop exp).
