Default Question for Schrapnel/Malfador on new patch...

I got a series of error Messages when I started a new game earlier....their were so many I couldn't copy them by hand and was unable to copy/paste. If my memory is ok, they mostly dealt with not finding certain AI settings. Do ya'll want me to re-create and make a stab at getting these error Messages?

Are you using modified game files?

nope, i just tried with a default race--Terran and got the series again....AI settings....error Messages say can't find various files with these....only non-default I have is Rambies B5 shipset but I didn't use it this Last try.

Guess I could hand copy these 6 message boxes (6-8 errors each) if need be.

The gameplay doesn't seem too different, except now cargo boxes don't seem to hold satellites or mines .

But I wasn't more than 50 or so turns into the game.

I did a fresh un-install/re-install and that cleared it up. I suspect it was the two merchant races I had set up on my own. hehe, guess I'll have some fun re-setting them. *shrug* no biggie.

However, when I make a custome race (ie not default) I get these error Messages. My guess is I am supposed to make these AI settings for the new race. uhm, I really do NOT like to do programming myself, so tweaking all those files is NOT my idea of fun

I am having a similar problem. When I start a new game and let the computer generate empires I get a message box stating that an AT settings error has occurred and that the Personality Group in Settings could not be found. This does not occur with any of my own created races, even if the computer is running them, nor does it do it with neutral races. I checked in the settings folder and that file does exist, so I am at a loss what to do next. So far though it has not affected game play. Any suggestions from anyone.

If you have new shipsets that dont have proper AI files present in the Races directory you sometimes receive all kinds of errors. It only occurs if that shipset it one of the ones selected to play in the game so it wont happen all the time.

My workaround has been to make a separate directory in the main SE4 folder to hold all my additional shipsets that dont have AIs and I simple plug in the one(s) that are going to be used that game. Any others are removed from the Races folder before the game is created.

Another workaround is to select all the enemy races yourself and not let it pick randomly generated Empires.

Sabre, I had that same error. And I also had that file in the settings folder. I reinstalled the game, loaded the patch and then put my custom races back into the Races folder. The only thing I didn't redo was a couple of custom neutral races I had, I left them out. I haven't had a problem since. Not sure what causes it, but I hope that fixes your problem.

Here are the error Messages I get with a custom race made on the fly to setup a new game , not one I did before the patch and no I did not make anything up other than what I can by clicking settings during setup. I used Rambies B5 shipset to make the .bmp's for the ships.

Patch 1.19 error Messages

AI settings Errors: c:\program files \ schrapnel games \ malfador machinations \ space empires

*Could not find field “Maximum systems to defend at a time” in record “Settings”.

*Could not find field “Get angry over allied colonizable planets” in record “Settings”.

*Could not find field “Get angry over enemy colonizable planets” in record “Settings”.

*Could not find field “Percentage of allied planets to consider as attack locations for anger” in record “Settings”.

*Could not find field “Percentage of enemy planets to consider as attack locations for anger” in record “Settings”.

*Could not find field “Personality Group” in record “Settings”.

I get these EVERY turn. Man, I hope I do NOT have to make a new set of AI code just to do an "on-the-fly" race. I like making new ones every game...part of my fun, just see "what if".

Yes, I've seen these also. Look down into the directory where the B5 shipset .bmps are stored. You'll find a variety of B5-specific AI files there. These are out of date. Compare them to the AI files in one of the valid Malfador-approved races. You'll see that there are inconsistencies. Make the B5 AI consistent with what you find in one of the other directories. At a guess, whoever did the B5 shipset had the demo or the pre 1.11 patch and hasn't kept it up to date.
