Some Questions
I have a question or two about things if anyone could help me out
How do items that feed men work (and nature magic feeding men for that matter) is it just X number of supply points or is it literally X number of units or what? (i.e. endless bag of wine says 25 men is that 25 supply points or 25 units i.e. will it feed 25 jotun?) and the cauldron of food or whatever (20 nature gems) how many does that feed since it doesn't say.
I know a devil is more powerful than a jotun but I can't really figure out WHY... by the raw numbers they come out fairly even really but 10 devils can stomp 40 jotun without a single casualty. I MUST be missing something (and it's not the 30 morale unless that has a combat effect OTHER than routing.) the devils have barely more hp but thier armor seems much weaker... maybe it's in the defense and attack skills... or the weapon... hehe could be the heat too weakening the giants... food for thought anyway.
also I've noticed that when I set the neutral province strength up high that the first few rounds the "squares" in neutral provinces showing troops are huge but after a few turns they all drop down to various sizes of small. If I attack em early with (so far ulm/abyssia/ermor) I get the smackdown (jotan can handle it BARELY) but if I wait about 6-10 turns then attack it's as if I left the neutral provinces setting alone... I am thinking they starve to death because it chooses the wimpiest unit possible and then recruits as many as possible and they all starve lol. would be nice to see the neutral province strength affect overall unit strength and type rather than just the number of them so that didn't happen.
**EDIT** heck I mean wouldn't it be neat to hit a neutral province at strength set to 9 and find an arch devil in command of a horde of demons/devils and a brigade of mages and when you win you get a few choice magic toys that the demon was using as well as a rainbow of gems from the mages (if they didn't use em up slaughtering you hehe)

Re: Some Questions
Devils have very high attack and defense, and 2 hits per turn. Look here and at the stickied newby guide for what the numbers mean and how they affect combat.
Supply items always generate a set # of supply. Winebag=25 supply, enough for 8 Jotuns.
As for indies - they never starve, and never change strength unless armies invade. But without scouts the apparant strength fluctuates. Try out Gandalf's super-tough indy map, I think you'll like that...

P.S. On indy 9 you should still see hard provinces. I'm in an indy-7 game where my capitol started adjacent to a province with a golem, 50 living statues, and 2 gargoyles. I attacked with 96 units of Einheres (elite dual-wield prot-12 level-5 berzerkers) and assorted heavy infantry, and lost 80 units to their 17.

I believe that they do accumulate afflictions from Burden of Time, and disease from Miasma though, although I might be wrong.

Re: Some Questions
A size N unit (hoburg=1, human infantry=2, human cavalry=3, giant=4, Moloch might be 5, dragon=6) consumes N-1 supply per turn, except for size-1 units (which consume a full 1) and non-eating units.
Cauldron of Broth = 50 supply units; twice as much as a wine bag in the same number of misc slots. There's also the Summer Sword, which provides something like 25 supply. The same commander having multiple supply items of the exact same type does NOT stack; use different items or spread them among commanders. These supply numbers are reflected in reduced supply consumption in that province instead of higher available supplies.

They also die off if there is a disease-causing site in the province, and are, of course, affected by army-bLasting spells.

The Summer Sword gives 50 supply not 25.

Re: Some Questions
Thanks everyone that clears up a lot of confusion for me... still doesn't help me much with indies... I STILL get indy provinces in the middle of indy provinces with 11 defenders at strength 7 :/
11 militia mind...
**EDIT**
ah! just had a thought... I suppose province defence forces are probably somewhat based on the province (golly who'da thunk it lol) and so small wasteland types probably have small forces even with high indy strength maybe? hmmm, more food for thought... at this rate I'll get a fat brain
