news from the western front: Tuatha just got swarmed
Hmmm.... Just when I was thinking that I became a master of this game....
I played as the Tuathans (Man) to try out "archers backed by mages and priests that don't suck" idea. (Orania map, 8 impossible AI opponents) Expansion was going fine until I found myself at war with Caelum, C'tis and Ulm simultaneously. Before the war I had the most income and a contender for most provinces (and securely the Last one in research), but now I have lost about nearly half my holdings.
My main army is sieging Caelum and by sheer luck Caelum's secondary army and C'tis' main invasion force annihilated each other as they both invaded a lightly defended province of mine. (That was really hillarious). With ulm's assault I guess I'm calling quits, because Pangea and Jotunheim just arrived at my other and least defended door step.
What bugs me is that my scouts report C'tis is being chewed by Machaka from its other end but it still piles all its armies on my door. They don't like me methinks....
Are there any winning strategies anyone might want to share for Tuatha. (Yes, I "search"ed already - there wasn't much).
Even tough I have the most gem income I find that magic has been largely irrelevant sofar (midgame). Maybe I should have invested more in researchers than archers.

It ain't over till the fat lady sings.
That's one of the most important secrets to winning: The winner isn't the one who holds the most provinces while leading the board in research and income: The winner is the Last one still standing after everyone else has dropped from the game at the first major setback.

Well I'm hardly an expert, but Man has some great artillery-type battlefield spells: Sleep Cloud, Poison Cloud, Orb Lightning, Thunder Strike. A bunch of Longbows behind a decent shield of infantry and a few mages casting such evocations should quickly demoralise most armies. Ulm should go down quickly to the above spells, Caelum is something else with their fliers, but C'Tis should be vulnerable to some of the above too.
Best of all, if you have Wind Guide (Alt. 4) both your archers' precision will be increased, and your mages', meaning for accurate orb lightnings (which is very important)
Also Nature has lots of summons which you could use all those extra gems for. Try Pride of Lions for a great flanking force - summoned 12 at a time.
edit: most of my playing Man is standard theme, so it'll be a little different (but not too much).
