Should Mercenaries be allowed in the Hall of Fame ?
If there were an option not to allow merces in the Hall of Fame a lot more regular units would be allowd to get in, since many merces start off with exp. it limits how many regular unit get in, plus it's kind of unfair. When I think of a merc. thats what it is, a merc not a hero, it hard to think of a merc as a hero for one nation and then if obtained by another nation it becomes a enemy to the same nation that it was once a hero to. Merc's to me are neither hero or villain, there just free to hire with no alliance.

Well, the only merc that's likely to be in the HoF for a long time is Orion. Seeing as how he's an immortal undead munching knight that's been around since the fall of Ermor, I don't think that's too much of a problem.

The hall of fame is the hall of fame, not the hall of heroes 8)
Mercenaries don't have to be heroic to be in there, they just have to be famous - think of Blackbeard the Pirate - famous but hardly heroic.

Your right about mercs not being heroes, I don't know what the hell took me down that path, but I would like to see the option not to have mercs in there so that the regular unit can have a shot at getting the benefits

Hall of Fame? What I want to see is a Hall of Shame, for units that have managed the most ignominious deaths possible

What, like casting ghost wolves instead of the scripted air shield and having them die and cause 4 fully equipped SC's to rout?

But Orion seens to enter the game at 1000+exp with 0 kills always. I.e. when he became available, he'll be at the top of the Hall of Fame, automatically knocking out the lowest guy/gal/thing.
And because of his 1000+exp, even if he was killed permanently right away (which seems to be a common occurence in my SP games, guess the AI don't factor in immortality not working in unfriendly domain...), he'll stay in there pretty much the entire game, effectively premanently reducing the number of available slots. The same can be true of some rare Mercs arriving at high Exp.
I am not actually advocating the removal of Mercs in Hall of Fame, even as an option, just that sometimes the situation is rather... err... bizarre (A famous Orion from the past made his grand entrance on the battle field, falls on his face and dies, but we remember him as "famous" from all the stories of his "past deeds" despite the fact that no one alive, save immortals, have really witnessed his exploits in this lifetime)
Just some random thoughts

Mages are like children, and SCs are like crates full of explosive devices.
Just as you should never leave children unattended in the presence of explosives, you should never leaves mages unattended in the presence of SCs.

If one wants more people in the Hall of Fame, one can use the option for there to be more slots in the Hall of Fame...

Just as you should never leave children unattended in the presence of explosives, you should never leaves mages unattended in the presence of SCs. Wise and true. Chapeau!
