I have not played SEIV in a PBEM game - can some shed some light on what you get in response to a battle.

But currently you can see the battles, because was one of the features added to SE4 (I can not remember the patch).
And guys, you really should try to play PBEM. You can get a lot of fun (specially using the Admiral's Play by Web host).

I was just talking about VGA Planets - one question thou!
Again I have not played PBEM yet, is the battles colorful or does it look like dots and so forth.

When I Last checked, the combat replay was like tactical, but you can't see damages or hitpoints.
The ships fly around and beams and explosions are drawn, but if you right-click a ship, you only see the design, not the ship or broken parts.

Once the next patch is released and PBW has it, if PBW added support for the PBEM helper, then the system would be about ideal.
