Automatic minefield tag removal
In an ooold PBW game going on at a slooow pace, I'm at war again after many months (more than a year maybe) of real time.
I've discovered some minefields the hard way and got them automatically marked on the map. I then sent some minesweepers to clean up the minefields; they swept all the mines there but left the minefield marker in place (I had to manually unmark it). I know they swept all the mines because my ships took no damage.
I vaguely remember from ages past that when a known minefield was completely cleaned by a minesweeper the minefield marker was also automatically removed... Am I wrong? Is that a switch hidden somewhere?
Thanks!
PS: Nice to see a lot of known nicks still active here... I think I might be back on these forums for SEV

Re: Automatic minefield tag removal
As far as I know when you clear a mine field it should remove the tag, I have not run across it in any of my PBW games yet but solo it works

Re: Automatic minefield tag removal
I have seen instances of both automatic removal and non-automatic removal. Remember, that your minesweepers will only remove mines from enemy empires that would have exploded, but friendly mines (which may not be friendly at a later turn) might still exist there in that sector. This might be the reason, but maybe it's just not 100% consistent.

Re: Automatic minefield tag removal
Dunno why it happens, 'tho if Slick's guess is right, that is a pretty useful trick. But sending the minesweeper back to that spot will always clear the minefield tag, IIRC.

Re: Automatic minefield tag removal
I was thinking that minesweepers might only remove the Tag if they try to sweep a mine and don't find one. This would explain why some times they don't remove the Tag, if for example the ship removes 10 mines and only 10 are left
Hmm sounds a bit too logical

Thanks! Although it's "only" been six months
Maybe that's the reason of the slight difference between our post counts (currently 125 to 8551) even if I actually signed on two days before you did

Re: Automatic minefield tag removal
It can't be that as all my minesweeper Groups can sweep more than 100 mines (useful if I run in two enemy minefields in the same sector, or lose a sweeper in combat).
I think Slick might be right, some of the minefields I cleared this turn had the tag automatically removed, while others were still marked. The minefields still tagged are on the more obvious places to place mines on, such as warp points and resupply depots - the kind of places where every player might want to place a mine or two...
BTW, it's a v1.49 game (I told you it was ooold!).

Re: Automatic minefield tag removal
Hmmm, 1.49, eh?
Remind me how one manually clears a minefield tag? I knew once but have forgotten.
Oh, and umm, need any replacement players in that game?

Re: Automatic minefield tag removal
Press ctrl + r, then click on the minefield marker. ctrl + t can be used to manually add one. Handy for marking certain warp points as no-fly zones even if they are mineless.
