Newbie question
Sorry if this is not the right forum to ask for these things, but I hope someone here can help me anyways.
I only recently bought me an iBook and happily installed my Dominions II on it. When I try to start the update I downloaded and started the update, I simply got the information:
Patch not applied. You have not selected the right file.
So I am totally lost.
Here is exactly what I did:
I double clicked on the file Dominions II patch 2.14, the program-window that opened had a button in it, labeled "Select Dominions II". I then clicked this button, selected the executable I had installed from the CD and clicked on the "Open" button.
What did I do wrong, what do I have to do?
While we are at it, how do I install mods under Mac OS X ?
Everything works fine on my Linux machine... so please, help me !

Re: Newbie question
Not sure, but maybe you have to choose the folder instead of the program... Hopefully you will get it working soon...

Re: Newbie question
here is what lingchih did to get the mods working on a mac:
Quote:
t's simple, but not very well documented. Most of the Dom2 files (maps, etc.) reside inside the Dom2 Package on OSX. But the mods directory lives in the Dominions2 game saves directory, at the root of the hard drive. Just drop your mod in there, and it will work just fine.

as to patches, they should just work, but i remember some people having problems - I'd suggest trying to install an earlier patch (2.12, or whatever) and then applying 2.14 on top of it. I seem to remember that, or something similar, was the solution.
good luck.

Re: Newbie question
I downloaded 2 earlier patches, 2.12 and 2.13.
Both I could perfectly install with the procedure I described above. 2.14 still doesn't work. Seems I will just have to wait for a 2.15 Version that will then hopefully work again for me.
Thanks a bunch for your help ! Its great when a community works.

Re: Newbie question
Hmm. I seem to remember this problem. Go tour your Dominions 2 app, select Get Info on it, and unlock it. I think it is locked by default, for some reason. It definitely has something to do with permissions.

Re: Newbie question
Thank, that did the trick. Where would one normally find these hints if not in user forums such is this?

Re: Newbie question
This forum has a thread for Technical/Hardware issues, unfortunately the problems and answers are found more often outside of it than in it. Would you please post a message to it with the description of your problem and the solution?
