Default Editing the Predefined Races

I want to edit the races that came with the game (minor changes), but even if I change the AI General files in the race directories, the changes do not take effect in the game. I realize I have to create new EMP files for these changes, but I don't want to lose the AI settings that came with the game. How can I recreate EMP files using the AI files that are in the race directories?

Not sure what you mean... I've changed the AI General files, and had the changes take effect. AFAIK, the EMP files are not used when generating a race. They are there if you want to specifically add that race into the game. As for recreating EMPs files... The best way I can think of (to make sure that its based on the AI files) is to create a game and save any races that were included... might take a bit to get all of them.

Move most of the other races out of the Pictures\Races folder and set the number of computer players to High. Start a game with another race. It should generate the new race with whatever files you modded. Go into the game options and select players. Switch the race you want to create a new .emp file for to human control and when it's turn comes up, save that empire as a new .emp file, or overwrite the one that came with the game.

Is that what you are trying for?

"What do -you- want?" "I'd like to live -just- long enough to be there when they cut off your head and stick it on a pike as a warning to the next ten generations that some favors come with too high a price. I would look up into your lifeless eyes and wave like this..." *waggle* "...can you and your associates arrange that for me, Mr. Morden?"

never edit the orginal files, copy them all over to a mod folder adn then make your changes. Then go to the path file and change the path from none to the mod name. that way if you screw up, you don't have to reload the game from scratch.

Ah yes. I knew I forgot to mention something. Don't worry, I have copies of all the races in a separate directory for modding and tweaking.
