Re: Master of Orion 2 returns (soon)
Trust me, the guys who programed for MOO3 don't need any more pay than they already got. In fact they went laughing all the way to the bank. (Still pirated software is not the way to go. If you cannot pay for a game, make your own I always say.)

Agreed. A real pity. I bought the game right on the day of release, and i cant tell you how ashamed i was. MoO 3 was the game i was waiting for years for, and once i had it, i got nightmares, no joking. I never seen a game this pushed and awaited and failing its expections that bad.

Moo3 is what happens when the puplisher canges hands three times, each time changing what it wants to "what the market wants".
Please, don't attack Quicksilver; attack Atari / Infogrames instead. They were the ones calling the shots, not QS which has made several very effective games (when not required to release "on time" by a publisher that doesn't know anything other than FPSs and action...)
Example: Star Fleet Command -- Great game, done by quicksilver.

Re: Master of Orion 2 returns (soon)
The biggest complaint against moo3 seems to be a lack of controll - your empire is controlled by AI ministers who pretty much do what they want, no matter what settings you set.
I havn't played it, though. That's only what I've heard.

Re: Master of Orion 2 returns (soon)
GalCiv1 as well was TOTAL HORSE CR*P. I played only the demo, and set several new record times for myself:
-smallest amount of time played before uninstalling
-shortest time on hard drive
-shortest time for me to form a complete and total opinion on the game
I played, well, under 20 turns then immediately deinstalled it. The ONLY thing I thought was good about it was that you had to research Universal Translator before you could read what other species sent you. (but still, UTs get researches as something of the second or third research project, which means that a civilization only, say, 200-300 years from now discovers the magic Universal Translator..... yeah right!)

Re: Master of Orion 2 returns (soon)
i've heard mixed things about GC1. it sounded like a decent game to me. 2 sounds better, influenced from se4, it looks like. but thats not a bad thing.

Re: Master of Orion 2 returns (soon)
GalCiv 1 was ok. I'd rate it as being mediocre...not the worst game I've played, but SEIV was/is far far better.
Some points that made GalCiv not so good:
1. You could not design your own ships...they were pre-made, everyone had access to the exact same designs, no variation. That really sucked
2. Research tree was very very complex. I had to download and print out a tech tree just to keep track of where I was and what I wanted to research, and what each tech would give me.
3. Their concept of star systems kinda sucked. All planets, starts etc were all in one game square, which I thought was very clumsy.
4. It was very tough to get the AI's to make peace with you. They'd make peace and ally with each other, but you? Never.
5. Combat: Regular ships could not destroy an enemy colony. You HAD to invade it using transports, and the troops for those transports came from the population of your own planets! So attacking an enemy who had a larger population base than yours was virtually impossible, since they could repel any invasion you sent at them. Very very slow.
Other than those main points, it was an ok game, I've probably spent 30 or 40 hours playing it...not too bad for a game I bought for $20 on Ebay

Done already more than a month ago, but they seem to be too busy for things like that.
@Renegade: some of your points (1+3 at least) are addressed in GalCiv2. You will be able to play alien races then also.
