Strategic Combat - Formations - Fleets
I have looked through Dubious Strategy Guide, searched through the Posts here, did some of my own tests, but can't seem to find the answers I'm looking for...
I would appreciate any comments offered:
[assumptions - are these correct??]
Formations are made up of a Fleet Leader and ships numbered 1 thru "n"
Ships are assigned to the Formation based on their position within the fleet list (first ship in fleet list is assigned to ship 1 etc..)
[question]
(1) when I assign ships to my fleet list, the ships DO NOT appear in the order that I add them to the fleet list. Sometimes the ships add sequentially, then suddenly a ship will appear in the "middle" (somewhere but not at the end)...what is the LOGIC that is used to determine the position in the fleet list??
I thought I read somewhere that the ships add based on the CREATION "date" of the ship, but I have seen cases in my tests where this is not true....

Re: Strategic Combat - Formations - Fleets
I started this thread a couple of weeks ago, and excitedly checked each day to see what feedback I would get.
S-l-o-w-l-y I watched it go from the first page of Posts, to the second... to the third... with no responses
to have no responses makes me feel sad
do I need to learn a better way to "hook" responses?
is this question too boring to comment on ?
were all the "experts" on vacation for the Last couple weeks while it slipped from the 1st page
without pleading too much... please please please ! could anyone offer some insight ??
thankyou !

Re: Strategic Combat - Formations - Fleets
Hi. I don't really know the answer to your question but I thought I would reply anyways.
Hrmm... does it have to do with the numbered positions given in the fleet or are you asking how it chooses a number for a ship to put it in the formation.
I tend to think it is some strange gremlin thingy in the code that goes einie meanie minie moe and chooses a ship.
Anyone else have a better answer?

Re: Strategic Combat - Formations - Fleets
Ummm... don't know why you never got an answr. very other question I'v seen posted on this forum is answered within an hour or two. Must have slipped through th net.
I can't offer much of an answer. My exprience is that the fleet leader (selected by you whn assigning fleets) is number one. Which ship takes positions 2, 3 ,4 etc is pretty much random.
I suggest you do some playtesting and let us all know your results. Mayb thn th nxt person to ask the same question won't have to wait as long for an answr as you=-)

I tried to do as much testing as I could. I can find no rhyme or reason to how ships are added to the fleets...
I am sure that someone somewhere must have an answer.
Does MM read these Posts ?? Do they/he ever respond. If noone else knows, MM would.

Re: Strategic Combat - Formations - Fleets
I didn't reply because I thought the case you mentioned about order of construction was the answer.
The way I manage formations is to look at which ship is the leader, and what position a few critical ships are in the list, then look through (F1) Help/Formations and pick the one that best positions the key ships.
[edit] Forgot to mention, there's a check box at the bottom of the posting form that lets you be notified by e-mail when someone replies to the thread. I hardly ever use that option myself, because of the message volume on this board.
