DirectX or OpenGL?
I noted that on the system requirements I'll need a DirectX compatible video card as well as OpenGL... so which does the game use, and if it's DirectX, what version? I'm asking this because I'm running Linux and OpenGL should be no problem with a Windows emulator (crosses fingers) but DirectX (at least versions 7 and 8) might be a problem, given that I've never been able to get Starfury to run...

Re: DirectX or OpenGL?
Well, worst case would be if it used some of both for different parts of the game...
Best case would be you have a checkbox in the setup screen to choose DX or OGL.

Re: DirectX or OpenGL?
ATI X300... I think the real problem is that I'm running it through Wine on Linux though - it runs just fine on Windows

Re: DirectX or OpenGL?
Weird Worlds uses OpenGL for graphics, OpenAL for sound, SDL for everything else. There's no specific DirectX requirements, but OpenAL internally works through DirectSound3d in Windows and SDL uses various DirectX components as well. My guess is that the sound thing could be a problem but nothing else sounds particularly dangerous.

Re: DirectX or OpenGL?
Great! OpenAL shouldn't be a problem... say, if you're using all those cross-platform libraries, may I ask why you're releasing the game Windows-only in the first place?

Re: DirectX or OpenGL?
It's somewhat likely that there'll be a Mac (OS X) version as well, but only after the Windows version is done. We've done this with our other games. The main difficulty with supporting different operating systems is that we're all running Windows... Outside testers are fine and all, but it's hard to sell something we haven't personally scrutinized and found perfect

Re: DirectX or OpenGL?
Thank God for demos, then, so I can try both and find out which works best, given that Mac OS X is Unix-based
