Default Questions on the Map editor in full version...

I'm wondering what it's like; does anyone have any screenshots of the editor, it's user interface, etc?

Hi Mark,

I presume that you refer to the extended map editor tool included in the CD version?

It is a wonderful tool for map designers.

Not only, it contains some very useful functions like:

Undo/Redo
Quicksave
Snapshot
Select (cut/paste a section of the map)
and other functions

but it also gives you the possibility to design in higher screen resolution.

For all the above, I strongly recommend the extended map editor for the ultimate map designing experience!!

cheers,
Pyros

Personally, I don't see what the big deal is with the extended map editor even though I have the CD version. The random map generator helper is nice if you're in a hurry, but I rarely use that or the undo feature. The only thing that I might use it for would be the damage remover and the copy-and-paste thing, and if you really need features like these when you're designing a map, I'd say it's worth it.

Mustang,

The tools are there.

The only thing that matters is if the map designers know how to efficiently use these tools.

For instance, (one year ago) I used to need almost 2 weeks in order to design a huge topo map...
Now, that I learned how to efficiently use the extended map tools, I need almost one week for the same amount of work.

But this is not the only advantage that the extended map is providing me.

After I finish the creation of a Huge map, I may be able to cut and paste sections of this huge map, in order to create several linked scenarios (for using them as campaign scenarios)!

cheers,
Pyros

Yes, I guess the cut and paste feature makes it all worthwhile. But other than that, the extended map editor doesn't do anything substantially helpful, and as long as you are just designing single maps or are OK with not making huge maps and cutting off sections, it dosen't really have anything special. At least not that I know of.
