Oooh, that would be *very* nice. It wouldn't have to be even much diffrent...it could result in those lil' freaks with commander skills, or maybe you would get a "Gifted Freak" with 1 random magic, oreven a thug-suitable commander. 
EDIT: I don't think it would be overwhelmingly hard to do either...

I found the spell semi useful for armies where the other guy had me all matched up. Exactly the right units to counter my units. Tossing in a large batch of the random attacks/defenses that come up on crossbreeding tended to mop up such a well thought-out army.
Now I definetly wouldnt mind abit more of that. Some creative new units with surprising new abilities. If they are too powerful then just have them show up less often. But I definetly found it useful at times to get everything from fodder to amphib to drainer in a nice mess that I could assign around. Some small flyers wouldnt hurt. And maybe a couple of sneaks.

Fliers, sneakers and maybe bit more amphibs would be nice too.
Maybe a couple more robust creatures too?
