OT: Star Trek 11 (?) news...
For anyone who's interested.....
Quote:
Trek's Abrams Eyes Damon?
The Insider, the syndicated gossip TV series, reported a rumor that Matt Damon is being eyed to play a young Capt. James T. Kirk in J.J. Abrams' proposed 11th Star Trek movie.
Citing an anonymous source, the show reported that Abrams (Mission: Impossible III) is so interested in Damon (The Bourne Identity) that he's sought support from the original Kirk, William Shatner. "Shatner gave his blessing," the source reportedly told the show. "J.J. got his approval."
Rumors are circulating that Abrams' Trek movie will be a prequel to the original series, centering on Kirk and Spock's early days at Starfleet. "J.J. wants Damon as Capt. Kirk," the source said. "He really loves the idea."
For their part, Abrams and his Trek producing partner Bryan Burk (who is also an executive producer on Abram's hit ABC series Lost) have declined to comment on speculation about the movie's storyline, saying only that any reports about its narrative have been released prematurely.

Secret Trek Treatment Revealed
In 2004, television producer Bryce Zabel (The Crow: Stairway to Heaven) and fellow producer J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5) had an idea to "reboot" Star Trek—an idea that ultimately never came to fruition, though it caught the attention of Trek fans. Since then, the news has emerged that Mission: Impossible III director J.J. Abrams is developing his own take on Star Trek for a proposed 11th film. And Zabel has chosen to post the 14-page treatment he and Straczynski developed on his own blog so that fans can finally get a look at the Trek that might have been.
The treatment called for a re-imagining of the original series, centering on the three main characters of Kirk, Spock and McCoy, set on the U.S.S. Enterprise on its first five-year mission. Zabel told SCI FI Wire that the show would reset the mythology to "start a new 'Universe B' which would be free to move in new directions as needed and yet allow us to work with the classic characters that all fans love and cherish. The best of all worlds, if you will."
As for the ship's mission, Zabel said the new mission would be "oriented toward discovering the truth behind an ancient life that appears to have had a hand in creating the numerous humanoid species throughout the universe. That would have been the over-mission, which would have steered the Enterprise into finding its share of new worlds and civilizations just the same."
Zabel wrote on his BLOG: "We wanted to do what they do in the world of comics, create a separate universe so we could embrace the good stuff, banish the bad, and try some new things. We wanted to use Kirk, Spock and McCoy, but show them off as you'd never seen them before."
So why release the treatment now? "Might as well let the fans who'd heard about it and wanted to see it, see it," Zabel wrote.

These people really have no freaking clue what makes the average Trek fan tick do they? The average non-Treker will not see this because they don't like Trek. And the average Trek fan will hate it casue they are screwing with the established timeline. And he thinks this is the "best" of both worlds?

There just pissed that they let RB and BB screw things up so badly.
This old Harvy Bennette idea has been laughed to death so many times that they really must now be utterly desprate to even be thinking about it.
They SHOULD GO WITH THE ROMULAN WAR TRILOGY!

I agree with Geo. Don't call it a Star Trek movie if it's not going to fit in with the Star Trek universe.

Re: OT: Star Trek 11 (?) news...
While it is an interesting idea and previous productions have been successfully in re-booting franchises (ie Batman, prolly Superman), I'd rather see their creative energies in create a new Sci-Fi type universe instead. Perhaps one with vegetables, and fruit, and meat, and...

Re: OT: Star Trek 11 (?) news...
They should just create a new space opera series based upon Star Trek. Look at what the books have been able too do. Lets face it, the original series is over, the cast are dying off, and to now go back and try to remake history is just plain f***ing stupid in my book. Sure Matt D. would be an interesting Captain, but who would they get to play Spock or McCoy? Gary Sinese (sp) as Doctor McCoy, and some unknown dude to play is playing Mr. Spock.
For Gods sakes, listen to the fans for once and just make a trilogy dealing with the Romulans. Hell introduce a new cast and give us something to call Star Trek.
Really I would love nothing more than to take these young yuppie stuck up producers of today and beat them to near death with their blackberries and liberal "lets remake Star Trek" scripts.

Re: OT: Star Trek 11 (?) news...
Here's a thought, have Matt Damon play Kirks great great grand son. The plot would be simple, on the maiden voyage of the Enterprise F James Thaddous Kirk and crew uncover a secret plot by the romulans to destroy the Klingon Star system using an ancient Federation technolongy, the Genesis device.
Kirk and crew must stop the evil plot form succeeding with a damaged ship, limited ability, and a cunning and devious enemy commander bent upon finishing his mission.
Kirks great great grandson could easily be explained away as the child of one of Kirks many sexual excursions.
Think about it, Admiral Picard giving a new Star Ship Enterprise to the great great grandson of James Kirk. Picard having met Kirk and been there at his death would have taken a special interest in Kirks offspring. Then Kirk and crew set out to save not only the Federation, but the Klingon empire as well.
If I can come up with a story.... then why in the hell can't they?

Re: OT: Star Trek 11 (?) news...
And lets make the enemy Romulan commander an intelligent bad guy like the dude in Serenity or Darth Vader. No more of these idiots of year bad guys.... That just insults people and pisses me off.
Make the movie a long epic film.. hire Peter Jackson to help develop it and to direct it. Take a page out of the Gene Roddenburry book of success and move on with a new crew, a new mission, and a new philosophy toward intelligent story telling coupled with good characters and exceptional plots.
[censored] can these remakes and pre-tos ideas and start fresh. Pick up where Nemesis left off and move on. Give us something fresh, not something thats been reheated, remade, and reserved so many times that the meir thought of it sickens one to the point of vomitting.

Woah, Trek has an established time line? It seems to shift and bend as the writers see fit (like that awful Enterprise...).

Re: OT: Star Trek 11 (?) news...
There is a way to fix all of the time line muck ups. But no one will ever be brave enough to do it. Like I said, hire Peter Jackson and tell him to fix Star Trek.... then leave him to do his job.
