British Army Commandos
In the Great Britian OOB I noticed that many of the various Commando units are equipped with the Sten. The Sten was not in common usage by most Commandos. While a few Army Commando & RM Commandos and specialty units such the the COPPS (forunners of the SBS) did employ the Sten on occasion (especially the Mk.II(s) suppresed version), the Thompson was far more common in the Commando TO&E.
For 3 of the Commando unit classes the Sten is the only SMG available. For example:
Unit class 84 Commando Support (all)
Unit #'s 191,192,419,434,520,527,528
Unit class 85 Light Commandos
Unit #: 422. The other unit in the class 525 offers the Thompson but not unit 1944.
Unit class 87 Heavy Commandos
Unit#: 430. The only unit in the class - has Sten instead of Thompson.
Finally the Sten did not begin to see service until mid-1941, most of the commando formations using the sten have an availability date starting 1/41.
This is a problem with some other units as well.
LRDG Teams 214, 240, 243 and 253 all have Stens, and have an availability date of 9/40 - almost a year too early for the Sten. In any case the LRDG used the Thompson, not the Sten.
Patrol 275 - Has Sten too early.
The easiest fix would be to replace the Sten with the Thompson in all of the affected formations (which is what I did in). You'd lose most of your Sten armed Commando units, but these would have been very uncommon anyways. Or you could fix the dates on the Sten armed units, and add Thompson equiped versions with the 1/41 avail date.

Re: British Army Commandos
Here's something, you could rename the weapon to "SMG" and be done with it. The Thompson and the Sten have the exact same stats, and in terms of game scope, this is probably about right.

But then, a month later, someone would appear complaining there is no Sten and no Thompson

Re: British Army Commandos
Yeah, but there was some talk about this in passing either here or up in the WinSPMBT OOB forums. At a certain point it makes sense, especially seeing as how irrelevant it becomes in game terms for basic infantry weapons to become "semi-auto rifle," "bolt-action rifle," and so on.

No... they do not have "the exact same stats". If you open the Brit OOB and take a close look at the two weapons you will see that there is indeed a difference between the two. The Sten has a HEK of 5 and the Thompson is 6

Re: British Army Commandos
well then I stand corrected. I did open it up and check, and was sure they were the same, and I was wrong.
