Default Question on ATGMS secondary attack roles...

Recently in the war in LEbanon, Hizbollah used a lot of ATGMs as impromptu long-range guided artillery; using them against virtually anything from tanks, jeeps etc, right down to individual groups of soldiers and buildings with Israelis in them.

I'm just wondering, Is there a very small HEK capability assumed in herent with guided HEAT-only weapons in the SPCAMO code?

No, but you can edit the missiles to have HE load. Seems to work on Russian Khrizantemas.

As with ATRL/RPG/LAW-type thingies, you can add values to the HE parameters of the weapon, then give HE ammo to the missile team/vehicle. As a rule, HEAT rounds will not be used against soft targets in the game.
The Khrizantema and other Russian missiles can give you stock ratings for FAE warheads, for basic HE-Frag warheads look at equivalent HE LAWs in some OOBs, or deduce from artillery rockets or mortar rounds of similar caliber.

So, ATGM would not be able to target infantry?

Last time I did some tests if they have HE round, you can engage infantry.
You can also fire them at emtpy hexes with the Z key for that matter, provided that they have HE ammo.

In "Hizbollah" OOB I gave all hizb ATGMs "kill" value and gave each ATGM formation both AP and HE ammo . WinSPMBT AI use them against infantry without problems. However the cost of such formation should be lowered and not calculated by calculator, or they would be prohibitevly expensive.

From what I recall, the Hezbollah used old-style AT-3-series ATGMs against entrenched infantry. I think it may be better and easier to use another unit class for HE-only missiles, so you can run both anti-infantry and antitank teams side by side, without both bearing the load and the cost of useless ammo.

Say, you use the inf-ATGM class for up-to-date ATGMs used against tanks (these days, that would be Fagot, Konkurs, Milan, TOW, and whatever they could smuggle from SYria or Iran), and use another class (no matter what, heavy inf-ATGM, inf-RR... even guards inf-AT if it turns out these guys are better trained, or reversely) for teams who get older missiles with only HE warheads (or old HEAT warheads used against infantry, for that matter).

This way the dedicated ATGM teams don't lug around costly HE missiles, don't blast their cover firing at the first scout around and don't expend, er, expensive modern missiles against brick houses.

The guerrillas are drawing on years of meticulous preparations and training, combined with access to newer weapons technology. The most effective weapons system employed by Hizbullah's front line guerrillas are antitank missiles. Small teams of specially-trained fighters have inflicted comparatively heavy casualties on Israeli troops, using advanced missiles to knock out the formidable Merkava tank and using older versions to punch through the walls of houses sheltering Israeli soldiers.

In the current war, Hizbullah has used for the first time the Russian Metis-M, which can be fitted with an anti-armor warhead for destroying tanks, or a fuel-air explosive warhead to use against troops or bunkers. The missile has a range of about one mile. Hizbullah is also reported to be employing the laser-guided Kornet-E anti-tank missile which has a range of about 3.5 miles. Individual fighters carry the shoulder-fired RPG-29, a more advanced version of the RPG-7 loved by guerrilla groups around the world since the 1960s. The RPG-29 was first used by Hizbullah last November in a failed attempt to kidnap Israeli soldiers.

I wonder whether HE warheads on ATGM will be simulated in the next patch, as they also wanted to include FAE and DC RPGrounds IIRC
