Default How to fight Organic tech?

I have just lost about 120 ships in combat(two separate attacks) to an Organic player. His damage was NEGLIGIBLE!!!!!
We are in late game, both have researched a lot of stuff. My ships were mostly Battle Cruisers and smaller ships with about 30 bigger ships. His were mostly Battle Cruisers and bigger.

What is a good combination of weapons(normal tech) to fight Organics ship for ship? His Lightning Rays and Enveloping Acid Globules do a lot of damage. And his Organic Armor is hard to get through and regenerates!

And what's with his weapons that are Large and Heavy mounts? What is that? When I browse his ship design he has a Heavy mount Phased-Polaron Beam that can do damage 180-165-165-165-150-150! What up with that! How come I(with normal tech) do not have Large and Heavy mounts? Or I do have them, but my ship designs do not distinguish between them?

Thanks

Use Null-Space weapons. They penetrate armor and shields, but the tradeoff is a slow reload time. And mount sizes are definietely something you need to find. In the design screen, make a new design, then click on 'weap mount' to change your mount size. The descriptions of the mounts tells you what tonnage sizes each mounts will work with.

Engine overloading weapons work nicely. They ignore his armor and burn out his engines, leaving his ship immobile and useless.

Crystalline tech has weapons that skip armor as well. They are effective against organics.

Davout,

You need to click on the Weapon Mount button when designing ships and choose a weapon mount size. It will then display weapons with the larger mount size. Which mount you can use depends on your null size. You must have cruisers before you can use large mounts.

Try to avoid being hit while skipping his armor. Used Null Space, Engine Zapping, and Weapon Zapping weapons that skip shields and armor. Use Scattering Armor III, Stealth Armor III, ECM III, Train your ships and fleets, use small hull sizes. Use Shields because his weapons do not skip shields.

Of course, he can replace ships faster than you can because he utilizes the Organic capacity of his shipyard to make 1/3 to 1/2 of the ship's components. Organic races are very tough. I think they are the strongest, but I try to not play one for the challenge. I suggest in the future you either take an Organic race or one designed to fight one (Crystalline, Psychic, Religious/Very Hi Def/Low Maint). Also, beat down Organic races early in the game before they get their Organic weapons. Do not trade with them and get everyone else to boycott them.

I agree with both Kodiak and Apache, You didn't say if your playing hotseat, PDW or Sp
could make differrence as to weapons. In Sp and hotseat, I usually use a combination of weapons, since you are straight no special trait, I would design 1 type majority of Null weapons with 1 or 2 Hellbores but due to their not firing every turn, be sure and put in at least 1 or 2 weapons that fire every turn. 2nd type - lite null then heavy with hellbores rounded out by single turn weapons. or a combination of both with engine destroying weapons. Ripper Beams on mounts also very good but you have to get in close. 3rd type, heavy with single firing weapons lite null and/or hellbores. Use large or heavy mounts (depends on ship size) and throw in a few missle ships heavy in msl's. I try and use combine arm ships in my fleets, usually have 2-4 different designs Or use ship capture units - take his ships away from him... these are only my opinions, different strokes for different folks. Mount button in design screen, upper right. You can also put mounts on torpedos, which are also excellent to use the higher up you go, they can't be shot down like seekers. Best advise, experiement see what works best for you and your style....

good luck

I always equip all my attack ships Cruiser size and over with at least 1 Null Space Cannon with the largest mount available. Yes, you have to get a little closer, but a few volleys of NSC's and the guts of his ships will be emptied quite quickly. Yes, I do understand about the reload times, yet it does bypass ALL shields and ARMOR. Once the enemy has lost a few vital components; ie. weapons, combat sensors, engines, etc. then all the organic armor in the world won't be a whole lot of help.....

Of course, as suggested, bulk up on shields and get the advanced armors for the defensive modifiers....

Also note that when you're designing a ship, the Weapons Report can be set to different mount sizes, as well.
