Battleground editor usefulness?
Ok, noobie question hour again.
I just noticed, and played with, the battleground editor.
What practical function does it have? Is it just for fun? Or do the terrain effects (roughness, trees, etc) actually have an effect on a battle? And how do I get them to be used for battles that may occur? Do I need to give them specific filenames and load them into the game somehow?
Thanks in advance...

Re: Battleground editor usefulness?
I'm not sure if the battleground editor does much anything. IW once described it as "almost useful".

Re: Battleground editor usefulness?
My estimation is one of the future patches will allow map makers to place obstacles within the battle editor and map makers can specify which province will use these battle maps.

Re: Battleground editor usefulness?
Half right at least. You can place obstacles in the editor if you know how and you can replace the original maps by swapping files.
The editor has been useful for me, but since it is neither documented nor intuitiv I doubt it will be very useful for other people. But press ? for some help.

Having a modding command that makes a province to use a spesific battleground would be interesting.

Re: Battleground editor usefulness?
Do he houses count as obstacles? I couldn't see any other obstacles to place. Also what does the battle tower do? It just created a blue glowy particle effect.
I think dominions MP could have a whole nother level of strategy if the place you fought had a greater impact.
Flying units would obviously have greater advantage in a obstacle heavy area. Archery untis would have little effect in such a place etc...

A modding command or a mapedit command would be nice. I'm not sure how armies would react if obstacles were placed within the center of the map. Are they smart enough to walk around the obstacle or would the attacker and defender to be stuck on each side until forced to retreat? I ask since I don't see any current battlefiled which has obstacles in the middle of a map.
I estimate it wouldn't be an issue since castle walls don't cause blocking issues.
