SE5 TCP/LAN Is it working with V1.17?
Did V1.17 get TCP/LAN play to a usable level?
Anyone tried it, yet?

Re: SE5 TCP/LAN Is it working with V1.17?
I don't know of anybody who's really used it lately, sorry.
Frankly, TCP mode just dosen't make much sense for a large-scope turn based strategy game like the SE series... Trying to organize five or more players to all be online at the same time, and then getting a mere handful of turns done...
Instead you can spend an hour playing your turn when you have time, and download the next turn when it is available.
Playing by FTP is the main method being used for SE5, and the PlayByWeb server is great for SE4.

Me and a friend always battle each other. It's more for 1v1 games with computer players.
We are starting a V1.17 game tonight. A little worried on large file transfers though. We are dial up users.....live in remote area.

Nope it does not work. It randomly selects players and lets the computer do the trun for them. we tried with five players on a LAN today. we made several tries and came up with the same answer. It does not pass to orders along. But it did work marginally better that CIV 4

Re: SE5 TCP/LAN Is it working with V1.17?
Civ4 was working for the most part at the lan party.
We had some interface bugs with the visa mod and Gozra's laptop had trouble syncing with the other computers. After goz moved to another computer and we restarted civ4 on the computers with the interface bug it ran fine.
As for the se5 game we really only tried two setups (one was in balance mod the other stock) but it did seem to be down right random about what players it ran the AI on.

Re: SE5 TCP/LAN Is it working with V1.17?
Hi, I have the latest patch to SE V - 1.20 and all the earlier ones are installed too. I set up a lAN game. I set it up in the following way (this set up worked for SE IV).
SE V is installed and updated on our server.
Computer A and Computer B have shortcuts to SE V execution file on server.
Person on ComputerA sets up a LAN game with the following multiplayer options
* Similtanous
* Different Machines
* Manual File Transfer
* set up password, a save game name, and game path
is default
After Computer A and Computer B take their turns, ComputerA logs in as host, when they go to the screen in which the host is supposed to process the turn, all they get is a black screen. Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong? Thanks. PS Game is stock no mods have been added at this time. I tried the setting music to False suggestion from Malfador and it did not fix the problem.

Now all we need are a few hundred people, a convention center, and we just might have our very first SpaceEmpireCon.

The black screen is a known bug with 1.2. As far as I know the only way around it is to reinstall and use 1.17 or use the command line execution.

Okay, thank you. Can you explain the Command line execution thing to me?
