Default Dogscoff\'s website

There's been a fair bit of activity on my webspace lately (Until recently I have hesitated to call it a "site"=-) and it is gradually growing from an anarchic, retro-html jumble of largely useless pages into an anarchic, retro-html jumble of reasonable (and unique) content.

As a reminder, it is currently home to:
-The Space Vikings
-The SEIV code
-The shipset neo-standard pages
-Various links pages etc

And I have at least one more SEIV related project to go up there within the next few months. Anyway, I have 2 questions:

1) Does / would anyone actually link to it? If not, please take a look and see if you like it enough to link to it. If you do decide to link to me, take a quick look at my banners and button page to see if there is a banner which suits your site.

2) Would anyone be interested if I set up a mailing list to advise ppl of updates?

BTW, I'm expecting replies on this thread about how most of the site could be improved and / or modernised- I've considered it recently and have decided that graphical / structural overhauls are not likely to happen any time soon. I don't have the time and to be honest I kinda like it the way it is=-)

Hello,
I like your site. The only change I would make is to avoid dark text on a dark backgroud like you have on the: "E4 Image Neo-Standard" page.
Us old people and us folks with bad color vision have dificulty reading, colors and shades that are close to each other such as Blue and Black, Red and Black, Orange and Yellow. My work - a - round is to select the text and to increase the font size. The other option is for me to copy and paste it into my word processor.
Yes, when I my site is ready, I would put a link there with your approval.
Sincerely,
Sir Grypin

Oh, and one Last thought: "Sans Serif" fonts are easier for all people to read at a web site. This is due to the way the pixles are aranged on the screen. Arial, (boring but efective), is my preferance.
Thanks
Sir Gryphin

Thanks. The neo-standard pages were actually designed by the much-respected Mr John Beech of Universal Shipyards, and I admit I haven't done them justice: Among other manglations of his design, I forgot to upload the style sheets that define things like font styles and so on. (*Dogscoff slaps himself on forehead)

When I get round to uploading the necessary files (next week somewhen, I think), you should find it easier to read. I'll post here when that happens=-)

Let me know when your site is ready, I'd like to take a look.

By the way, (You probably already know this), you should be able to alter the default font used by your browser, so pages like mine that don't specify a font will always be displayd in Arial (or whatever). Obviously it depends on your browser but look through the "options" and "preferences" screens for a default font setting.

Interestingly, this is one of few remaining features on modern browsers that reflect the "true nature" of the web. HTML was originally intended to be an interpretted layout format, rather than the absolute layout languag it has become. The idea was that a page could be displayed according to each user's preferences and machine's capacity. Obviously, this meant that the same page might never look the same on two different machines, so HTML was a way of allowing the creator some control over how it would look. For example an early HTML tag was for "emphasis". Although this could be intrpretted in diffrent ways by different browsers, the page author could be confident that on way or another, that part of his page would be emphasised. This is one of the reasons I make my pages so "retro" in style.
Of course, as big businesses came onto the web, they decided that they couldn't trust the myriad web browsers to represent their precious corporate logos and livery correctly. It was decided that the general public, struggling with the new technology, couldn't handle this freedom of interpretation and gradually newer and less interpretative Versions of HTML were introduced and now there is very little scope at all for interpretation=-(

Hello, ::
You are correct, I do know of the ways to manage my Browser views but thanks for the advice. I do prefer to view a web site the way an author / designer / creator of a site the way they created it. My web page / domain is Sir Gryphin's Domain I should create a race based on that name. There is nothing about SEIV there, (yet). I will add a page or so in January when I finally have a cable link to the web and a lot more knowledge / experience with SEIV. It will probably be an overview on the principals of Strategy and Tactics in general and ideas of how to apply them to SEIV.
Side note: SE III is partially responsible for my divorce. Hmm, Maybe being single has an advantage after all. I mean, lets look at this, 6 hours of fun playing SEIV or 1 hour of fun playing Husband. Tough call. Should we make that topic a separate thread? < wry smile >.

Maybe we should start an 'SEIVholics Anonymous' thread.

Dogscoff...you ABSOLUTELY killed me on Rp*3!!!!! I'm sitting here at work trying my best not to draw attention to myself, but I've got tears going. Oh MAN...that was HILARIOUS!!!! Good work on the SEIV Code! heh heh heh

In other news: good heavens, man, do something about that background! I think I got a seizure trying to read it!

Minor site update today: This is a small update in the build up to the BIG update I will try to carry out over the next week or two. I really do have a lot of work to do on my site, on the Vikings (new release soon!) and on the neo-standard. Bear with me.

Anyway, today I have updated the SE4 code - there are two new questions, and a few minor changes to some of the old ones (mainly to reflect the Gold release.) The code remains fully backwards-compatible. If you already have an SE4 code, please retake the test. If you don't know what I'm talking about, now's a good time to find out.

Link to the page is in my sig file.

Suggestions, bug reports, comments & criticisms posted here please.
