We Need To Be Able To Export Combat Recordings
Here is a perfect example of why it would have been great to be able to export combat footage or record combats.

Re: We Need To Be Able To Export Combat Recordings
It would be useful for certain types of games such as Starscape, which is very story-driven and has an in-game news entity which would monitor and post public recordings of major battles. Though I could probably accomplish this by giving the independents reporter ships and having a "share combat recordings" treaty with all the players.
Still, would be nice to bypass that. Maybe fraps is the answer?

Re: We Need To Be Able To Export Combat Recordings
I agree that we should be able to export combat recordings, but that looks like a movie (it said so at the end). Is that from in-game combat? I don't know because I don't have that game but it sure doesn't look like it.
For SE purposes, these files could be kept to a minimum size if they were made to only run in the in-game combat simulator. That way shipsets and all the other required files wouldn't have to be packaged with the video. The downside is that people without the game couldn't view them. An update to the demo with this capability would go a long way to promote the game though.
The community could also use these as documentation for instructional purposes or to show others a particularly good battle.

That's edited in-game footage.

In-game combat or in-game cutscenes? If that's combat, that's amazing!

In-game combat. Mostly it doesn't look that good because you're viewing it from waaay zoomed out, though.
