old age solutions
I remember Old Age and methods of staving off death being discussed, but a search didn't turn up anything.
I think Growth is a good thing for some reason and I remember there my be some items and/or spells that help?
Basically, what can you do if you don't want your mages dying of old age?

Re: old age solutions
get a healer (chalice, faerie queens, arco priestess, tien chi immortal) to do away with their disease.. gift of health does this too, like shovah says
make them regenerate - they will still get afflictions, but their hitpoints wont drop once they are diseased. this will buy time for you to get a healer
any mage with 2 blood and 10 virgins can make a set of boots that stop aging.

Re: old age solutions
Do non "old age" units get older and eventually become old age? Seems to me those old age units collect alot of problems in a relatively short time (in a couple years they might be riddled with problems, in 3 or 4 years- dead) Even though they apparently had no troubles before hand.(before you recruited em I mean) It would make more sense for old age factor to just increase over time.. increasing its effects. The "battle wounds" from old age should be much more rare IMO.

Re: old age solutions
its a new concept in the dom world, I really like it, it balances out the really powerful mages pretty well and makes sense.
The reason old age people go downhill fast is because disease seems to be pretty common among the old age maladies

Re: question
I think that all units have an age. Its just that some are willing to warn you before you recruit them that they start right off with old age.

Re: question
So young units become old age if enough time passes then your saying?
Disease should be only permanent in rare occasions. Normally clearing up in a few months maybe. But even outside of disease old people seem to collect "battle wounds" way too fast.
Plus if it were more built into the old age trait (where the minuses of that trait increase over time.. like really old age trait and so forth) One couldn't as easily heal themselves out of the problems of old age.
I agree with wish its a good idea, just needs some fine tuning.

Time passes for all.
All units and commanders, even immortal ones, have both an age value and an old-age threshold. The usual rate of aging is one month per game turn, although Burden of Time increases this dramatically, and units affected by Decay age five years per combat turn, and there's a couple of magic items which eliminate aging for their owner.
The thresholds depend on the unit type and, for commanders, their magic paths; ordinary humans tend to have a 50-year threshold for old age, but fire magic decreases this while nature magic increases it. A Treelord, on the other hand, might have a threshold in the scale of thousands of years, and thus a non-old Treelord is highly unlikely to actually become old age during a game unless he's spending all his time being hacked by people with bane blades.
