Re: New version! New version!
Whats the deal with everyone using _ to add emphasis to words nowadays?

Blah. So, since IW couldn't be bothered to _mention_ this, it's screwed up my (and other people's) installs. And since they so-cleverly used an .exe to update the Windows version (instead of a zip like the other platforms) we didn't even get to see the contents to know it.
F-ing lovely.

This is a little overboard.
I don't think it's IW's responsibility to give out that sort of info. Most video game patches don't tell you the files they update, nor should you have been surprised that multiple files were updated. An EXE is the standard method of almost all companies to update their games, and I prefer it. And finally - reinstalling the game and putting on the 3.06 patch takes about 15 minutes, so it's not like you are completely screwed.

Totally off-topic, but it's been Internet slang for several years at least (_underline_ or *bold*). Even more off-topic, if you use Gmail's chat you'll notice that *bold* gets converted to bold text and _underline_ gets italicized.

Re: New version! New version!
The first time _I_ saw it was on _these_ forums. It reminds me of the the finger quotes that Lundberg uses when he is talking to Peter in office space.

Re: New version! New version!
It's been used in newsgroups for a long time. It might've appeared here because the CSIPGS newsgroup was pretty active about Dominions a long while back, and I understand there's lots of overlap.

Re: New version! New version!
The IW patch for Windows actually does let you see what files are updated, if you bother to click on the "Show Details" bit.

Re: New version! New version!
Yet another tip on which version to use for MP games: ALWAYS use the old version if you can. Even if the server has upgraded you should send it your turn using v3.06. Once you get a new turn back that's been generated using v3.08 you'll have no choice but to use v3.08 as v3.06 won't open the turn. So:
- Try to take your turn using v3.06. If you can, that's good.
- If it won't work, use v3.08.
I'm fairly sure this is foolproof.

Re: New version! New version!
Exactly, and that's what the game client should do aswell: try to connect with a packet like the very first client used to send to find out the version number of the server, then complain if the server's version number is lower than the client's "real" version number. I really wonder why they let it happen that so many games get blown up by high-version clients. That's one way of forcing every server to upgrade, but it's braindead from a programming perspective...

Funny, I used the so-clever exe to update the Windows version and I saw exactly what was updated. Oh yeah... _Blah_.

Re: New version! New version!
Is it just me or do the two new nations seem sorta 'bare' compared with,.. say,.. Lanka? I'm sure there are people out there who will be all over them, but to me they're kinda dull. Just personal taste.
The rest of the changes in the update are highly appreciated, although I was expecting more in the way of fixes to be honest.
