Tech Discussion
Hey people,
I'm new here really and want to know some stuff. I only have the SE4 Gold Demo, but the community and the game have encouraged me to buy it ASAP. Anyway, I create my race, varying atmosphere type/planet etc and inevitably make them scientists, with 130% research, then I either buy something like org. manipulation or something. I have several questions, A. What tech type/traits should i go for, B. In the full Version, do saved races keep their research status and C. How much extra is the in the full Version?
Thanks

Re: Tech Discussion
Hi Xandu, and welcome to the best Space Strategy game ever (And to the community ). Some humble answers:
A) That depends on you game style. SE4 is very flexible, and the racial techs are very well balanced to improve certain strategies. If you are aggresive, for example, organic tech have excellent weapons.
B) If I understand correctly, no (But I'm not sure)
C) Enough to keep you playing and playing and playing... I have not downloaded the demo because I don't want to break the surprises But the 100 turn limitation prevents to achieve the highest levels in science, so you have no access to most weapons and facilities.

Re: Tech Discussion
Thanks.
By research status I meant that if, for example, your race had researched troops then in the next game, would you still have troops researched?

Re: Tech Discussion
A) Depends on your personality. I like to take all 5 racial techs, but most people would call me crazy . Pick the one that best fits your playing style.
Organic is good for players with a swarm mentality: the more balanced costs allow much faster construction.
Religious is pretty good for turtles, with lots of defensive effect facilities.
That sorta thing.
B) No, that would be silly. WMG III & PSG V vs DUC II & Armor I?
Races do keep their hull designs, even if they can't actually build them until they research the tech.
C) Roughly 250,000% more
The top 5 reasons:
1 - You get the full classic, unrestricted game
2 - You get MODS! Like having 20 new games for free!
3 - You can MAKE MODS! (and have your own private universe to reshape at will. Bwahaha )
4 - You get many years of service, patches & addons. Your buck keeps plenty of bang, yet keeps burning all night.
5 - You can become a famous figure on these here Boards!

Re: Tech Discussion
"cut back on studying time if a student"
Heh, try cutting time in class.
OK, not really. One of my teachers is so boring, and so slow that I've been playing SE4 with have my brain and listening to her with the other half. Didn't miss a thing class-wise, but I think my SE4 playing suffered..

Re: Tech Discussion
Getting full game, 10x
Getting mods 20x
Making mods 5x
Getting customer service 5x
Becoming famous 2x.
= 1,000,000%.
Fudge factor 1/4x.
250,000%
So my rough estimate was low. Oh, well.
