Hello, I need a little information.
tl;dr: How does one utilize engineers to clear DTs and Mines?
Greetings.
I have just started playing WinSPWW2 and WinSPMBT this week, and I am loving it!
I have one question, so that I can proceed with a scenario.
I have checked the forums using "search," and I have read the online manual, but I may have over looked the information I need... I cannot figure out how to use engineers to clear DTs.
I have used area fire to destroy mines, but is there a better way?
I hope I haven't made a particularly craptastic first post... but it is really great being here and enjoying such an awesome game!

Re: Hello, I need a little information.
Get them (Engineer inf, or engineer/mine plow AFV) adjacent (can also be in the same hex, if they've stumbled into a minefield for example) and facing the obstacle. Then, just have them sit tight, and they will do their job. Hopefully.
Regular grunts have to be in the same hex, and will take longer to clear the obstacle.
Suppression will slow their progress as well, so they don't mind second hand smoke.

Re: Hello, I need a little information.
Game Guide, in the index column, locate the "mines and Field Engineering" link. Click on that and read, especially Notes 2 through 6. Also the sentence:
Quote:
Dragons teeth represent anti-vehicle obstacles of a substantial nature (such as piles of logs perhaps), used as an anti vehicle barrier, or as road blocks etc. They are best cleared by engineer types. They stop all (non-flying) vehicles, but are only an obstacle to foot troops.

- though in fact as I recall only engineer assets will shift DT.
So, march an engineer class foot unit or an AVRE vehicle to the DT, point it at the DT hex (optionally walk the leg engineers into the same hex as the DT for more effect). Now wait, and hope the enemy do not supress or rout you, and eventually you will clear them after several turns.
Cheers
Andy

Re: Hello, I need a little information.
Thank you Mr. BaronvonBeer and MobHack I feel a little foolish.
The entire time I have been waiting for a reply, my engineer unit was standing on top of the offending DT... much to my chagrin I have noticed that the DT is now gone. I now have the guys facing an adjacent mine, and can now assume that they are carrying on smartly!
Appreciate it!

Re: Hello, I need a little information.
Mines can be cleared also by regular infantry types, but the inf. has to enter the minefield (ie has to risk casaulties) and is alot slower than Engineers.

Re: Hello, I need a little information.
I believe I've noticed that engineers can clear mines and wire by facing it from an adjacent hex. But to clear dragons teeth they have to be in the hex with the obstacle (facing irrelevant).
Now it may well be they do clear DT's from an adjacent hex but it's s...l...o...w.

Re: Hello, I need a little information.
Assuming one has read the Online Manual, the only silly question is the one not asked. This site is well patrolled by wonderfully helpful officers & noncoms to coach you through the obstacle course!
