SE4 Gold Problems
I just recived SE4 Gold in the mail. When I tried to create a game I found that under the create new player window, the computer controlled button is grayed out. How do I create a game in which I play against the AI?
I have also found that under the victory conditions tab, all the options (such as "Galaxy has been at peace for...") are grayed out. How do I fix this?
When I am trying add to the Tech Area File, I get a message saying "Not enough memory available to complete this operation. Quit one or more applications to increase available memory, and then try again." All I have running is notepad, explorer, and system tray. 256 MB should be enough RAM for this game, right?
I was looking over these Boards and I saw something about Scout Ships. I decided to add a scout ship to my ship sizes and made a requirement that one must have the aincient(Aincient is a trait I added) racial trait to access this ship but when I started the game I noticed tha I had the Scout ship when I shouldnt have because I didn't have the racial trait. What am I doing wrong?

Re: SE4 Gold Problems
First one:
The race that you are creating is your race. You will control it. SE4 will create the AI's for you.
Second one:
You need to click the boxes beside the conditions to make it work.
Third One:
There are more applications running on your computer than what you think you see.
Control Alt Delete will bring up the Task Manager or Windows Security and Task manager button.
Just select the ones that you ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY you KNOW that you don't need by clicking it and click end task button.
Or...
You might be running some unnecessary program that hides behind the desktop but is still shown by little Tray Icons by your taskbar clock such as Morpheus, Kazaa, Audiogalaxy, Winamp, and other things. You need to select the logos near your clock things by double click or just single click and close it.
Fourth One:
Wha? I think you need to clear up your question.

Re: SE4 Gold Problems
For the out of memory thing I have found that if you click on the file to open it with notepad that happens more often. Open WORDPAD not notepad then open the file from within wordpad and that should stop that problem

Actually this is a Notepad problem. Notepad cannot handle files that are above a certain size. Use Wordpad or some other text editing program- I use Metapad myself.

Yeah but I was hoping to make my own(I did it in SE4, Does SE4 Gold not let you?) and not have a pre-generated race. I like to give the AI more bonus than SE4 does (all racial traits, +130% characteristics, etc.)

I did click the boxes but the %'s are grayed out and can't be changed. I remember when I first got SE4 you could alter them But I downloaded a Patch and they went gray. I was hoping this was a bug and it would be fixed in Gold but...

I created a new ship size in VehicleSize.txt
It was called Scout Ship. It was a direct copy of the Destroyer ship size with 1 change, it had a second requirement that you need to have Aincient Technology(a mod I made) level 3.

Re: SE4 Gold Problems
Then you are going to have to create your race FIRST then create your AI race.
For Modding help, Talk to Pheonix-D or Imperator Fyron or Suicide Junkie. They know Modding better than I do.

You need to click on the toggle Controlled by Player, not the label Computer Controlled.
Click on the greyed Victory Conditions that you want to use (they should highlight), then move your mouse across the screen until the sliders for setting that value appear. Click the arrows to change the values.

That toggle doesn't work if you have added a new race. It is a new bug that wasn't in classic SEIV.

Re: SE4 Gold Problems
Actually, that toggle DOES work.. just not when you're adding the race. You have to go back with the edit button and turn it on for some reason.
