Default SE IV strategic combat improvement?

Surely it should be possible in simeultaneous move games to watch the damage happening as the turns progress instead of seeing ships fly around seemingly unharmed until they blow up. Is there any way to do this? Is it on the list of bugs to fix or (desperately) needed improvements? I want to be able to see (for example) whether a combination of crystalline armour and shields works...

You can use the simulator to determine design effectiveness details. Damage tracking during combat replay would be nice, but it would also be a fair amount of work and would increase the size of the combat replay files. I'd like to see it, but personally I'd rate it about a 4 on a priority scale of 10 (highest) to 1 (lowest).

You can see the damage if you hover your mouse over each ship. Their component list will show up in the upper right box with damaged components displaying as such.

Hope this helps

Actually, you can't. In Simultaneous Combat Replay, only the ship designs are saved, not their statistics. Even a ship starting with only a life support component left will show up completely intact.

I think a more detailed replay could be possible with minimal increase in the *.cmb file size. I obviously don't know the intimate details of the programming that went into the Replay, but it seems that if each ship's supplies and starting damage were included, it would be easy enough to put this information in.

However, it probably would be around the middle of the priority list, I'll agree on that.

Well, it is only a personal view but 1) I can't understand why it hasn't already been done and 2) I think it is a really important part of a) the fun of watching the battles and b) the diagnosis of what works and what doesn't to see what is actually happening!

P.S. How can I generate an SE IV code of my own?
