Default Shield Protection question

Hello everyone!

I have been playing a lot of Tir na n'Og Lately and I am really curious about the "Golden Shields." Stat wise these look pretty sweet 22 prot, -1 Def, 5 Parry, 1 ench..but I for the life of me cannot find out what shields protection does for units. Why would the 22 of a golden shield be better than the 15 of a normal one? Thanks!

The manual describes this in detail. Just look it up.

In truth, even the normal protection of 15 is very good, and only few units are able to punch through it.

Oh thanks! I will look it up then...I was looking last night and could not find it for the life of me... ><

So would the great protection on the Tuatha shields mean thats part of what help my 40 Tuatha warriors beat 100+ Van infantry? I watched that battle in shock! I am really in love with TNO and Eriu now.. :O

Edit: Oooh I think I found it in the manual! thanks guys.

Wow, maybe the blesses just matched up in your favor? A lot of time, the AI will choose quite a substandard or inappropriate bless if it was in SP.

The great protection of the shields isn't really a factor unless you're parrying high damage attacks. They might be good against, say, cavemen or something. Also I think it would help stave off a fire bless, if you could actually parry those attacks.

Oh the bless definitely helped. I had earth 9 and they were mostly the Hirdmen and mounted hirdmen, but most the time that didnt matter for Van even in SP. They are still powerful troops. Which is why im surprised I won at all.
